Troutman, No. 5 Warriors Cruise to Straight-Set Sweep of Knights in Home Opener

SALEM, Ore. – The No. 5-ranked Corban University Volleyball team handled business on their home court for the first time in the regular season, taking a three-set sweep over Warner Pacific University to open Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play with final set scores of 25-14, 25-9, and 25-4.

"The team came out ready to play and competed well to kick off our first conference match tonight," Corban head coach Kim McLain stated as they kicked off their home slate in her ninth season as the Warriors' leader. "I was proud how they played together with focus and energy, concentrating on the little things to come out with a win in front of a great crowd!"

The Knights (0-8, 0-1) kept pace early in the first set with the nationally ranked Warriors (7-2, 1-0), trailing by just two points at the 7-5 mark and gaining momentum off a kill from opposite hitter Elizabeth Reid. However, Corban dug deep and found their offensive stride to close out the set on an 18-9 run, highlighted by four service aces by three different Warriors.

The second and third sets were quick to lean in favor of the Navy and Gold, as the offense could not be stopped en route to a team attacking percentage of .593, their highest mark of the season. In addition, the offense registered 37 assists compared to just nine for the Knights.

Four different Warriors swung over .500 on at least four attacks in tonight's match, led by junior outside hitter Rylee Troutman and her preposterous .857 attacking percentage that led to 13 kills with one error on 14 total attacks. Sophomore opposite hitter Makayla Roginski followed with eight kills and a .333 kill rate alongside freshman middle blocker Emma Bischoff adding five kills on seven attempts. Sophomore setter Abby Guindy added 20 assists to her season resume to earn the game-high mark.

Defensively, Corban nearly out-dug Warner Pacific in blocks alone, smashing back six blocks while the Knights saw seven total digs on the evening. Junior middle blocker Allyson Reid led the Warriors with three assisted blocks and added a pair of kills, while junior defensive specialist Graci Zanona posted the game-high in digs with eight to hold Warner Pacific to a negative attacking percentage on the day.

The Warriors piled on 39 kills compared to allowing just 12 to WPU, nearly matching the opposition in service aces to kills with 11 from beyond the back court line. Zanona, Guindy, and junior libero Marissa Uehara each secured three aces apiece to pace Corban.

Knights' outside hitter Izzy Moore led the team with five kills this evening, responsible for almost half of the team's kills on her own. Elizabeth Reid, twin sister of Warriors' Allyson Reid, secured four kills and an assisted block. Outside hitter Maryann Tulele paced WPU in digs with a trio of them.

Corban volleyball is back in action tomorrow night at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center, as they'll welcome the Lions of Multnomah University (0-1, 0-1) to conclude the opening weekend of CCC action.
