Senior Day Emotions Fuel Knights Over Warriors to Complete Six-Game Road Trip

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University Men's Soccer program wrapped up the traveling portion of their 2024 regular season schedule earlier today in Portland, where they suffered a 5-0 loss to Warner Pacific University on the Knights' senior day. A pair of seniors clinched brace performances for WPU in their final home game, resulting in the lopsided result for the Warriors.

"Disappointing result for us all," Corban head coach Josh Rios Noonkester said. "We didn't rise to the occasion, and Warner Pacific came to play. We have to focus on recovery now and turn all attention to Eastern Oregon. Our push for a playoff spot continues, and we have learn and move on from this result quickly. We look forward to this stretch of home matches as we look to close out conference play."

The Knights (10-4-0, 6-3-0) took control off the opening kickoff and scored 1:11 into the match to set the tone and immediately force the Warriors (4-7-3, 3-3-3) into fight-or-flight mode, which proved to be far too costly as Warner Pacific would go on to score twice more in the opening half alone. Forward Bryce McCole scored twice within a four-minute time span to triple the WPU lead and set the Navy and Gold up with their largest deficit in a four-game span.

Midfielder Chanin Orlandin secured his own brace in the 62nd minute to all but ice the Warriors, yet midfielder Bodo Calderon added a fifth team goal in the 70th minute to conclude the scoring and provide Coach Noonkester and his staff with plenty to consider heading into their final homestand of the 2024 fall season.

The Knights' defense limited the Warriors to nine shots on the day, three of them taken by junior midfielder Santiago Castano along with a pair of shots on goal to lead the team. Sophomore goalkeeper Miguel Trujillo suffered the loss against his season record with two saves, while his counterpart Noe Rodriguez secured five saves and the shutout victory. Chanlin was the offensive player of the game with four shots resulting in two goals and an assist.

At 2:30pm next Friday, the Warriors will kickoff their four-game homestand at the Outdoor Athletic Complex, welcoming Eastern Oregon University to the pitch first in hopes of increasing their chances at qualifying for the 2024 postseason.
