NCAA DI Pilots Take Exhibition Matchup with Corban Women’s Basketball

PORTLAND, Ore. – A challenging exhibition matchup for the Corban University Women's Basketball team concluded earlier tonight at the Chiles Center on the campus of NCAA DI University of Portland, where the Warriors dropped a 108-41 decision in a matchup where which they were tested in all facets of the game, providing crucial experience that will better the program as the progress into the second half of their non-conference slate for the 2024-25 season.

"The thing about this team is that we never give up," Warriors' head coach Kylie Frizell detailed. The University of Portland is a really good team, and their pressure forced us into a lot of turnovers. Overall, this is going to make us better as we grow this season, and I thought our fight was still there and we continued to be great teammates."

In the only non-counting contest of the season for the Warriors, the Pilots (2-0) took advantage of their home facility play with full court pressure, a stingy defensive presence, and an efficient offense that was successful enough to shake of multiple first quarter unforced errors and cruise to a 67-point win earlier Tuesday night.

The Navy and Gold were led offensively by redshirt junior guard Tori Younker who scored nine points in 18 minutes of action, hauling in four rebounds along the way. Freshman guard Nina Peterson added eight points off the bench, while sophomore guard Tayla Yost and senior guard Gemma LaVergne pitched in five points apiece. Yost also tied Younker for the team-best mark in rebounds with four of her own along with a swatted shot.

Five different Portland players finished in double-digit scoring tonight, led by forward Alexis Mark who scored 17 points and hauled in a game-high seven rebounds. Every student-athlete to see court time today for UP scored at least four points and a single steal in a contest where they forced 36 turnovers by the Warriors with their constant defensive press.

Corban women's basketball will travel to Fairbanks, Alaska this upcoming weekend for a pair of NCAA DII matchups, beginning with Western Oregon University (as the two Willamette Valley rivals will travel over 2,300 miles to meet Friday on neutral ground at 5:15pm AT/6:15pm PT in their first matchup since 2021.
