Corban Baseball’s 2024 Season Comes to End in Klamath Basin

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Corban University Baseball team saw their 2024 spring season conclude earlier today down in southern Oregon, as the Warriors dropped 6-1 and 11-1 decisions to RV Oregon Tech on the Owls' senior day doubleheader, which effectively wrapped up the regular season for the Navy and Gold.

"It was an honor and privilege to coach this group of men," stated Corban head coach Ryan Harris this afternoon. "They will have a special place in my heart for being the first team and group of seniors I had the opportunity to lead. I'm very grateful for these players and that they were able to lay the foundation of how we want to change our culture. Now, we look to finish the school year strong, honor graduates this upcoming Saturday, and look forward to next year."

Game 1 – OIT 6, Corban 1

A leadoff home run for Oregon Tech (34-16, 18-6) in the bottom of the first inning set the tone for the remainder of game one today and game three of four-game set, as the Owls were able to add single runs in both the fifth and sixth before three more came across to score in the seventh, al while Corban (9-38, 4-20) had been held to just three hits through seven complete innings.

In the top of the eighth, Warriors' senior shortstop Aidan Bunn tripled to deep centerfield to leadoff the frame, but eventually ran the risk of being stranded after two quick outs. However, junior third baseman Ryan Clay was able to single up the middle and score Bunn in the process to deny OIT the shutout and keep his personal hit streak alive.

Junior starting pitcher Hayden Van Acker was the losing pitcher in today's opener with three runs off three hits in 6.0 innings of work, walking two batters and striking out a game-high six Owls along the way. Redshirt junior reliver Nathan Findley allowed three more runs against the Corban bullpen in 2.0 frames thanks to five OIT hits.

One of the Owls' senior starting pitchers, Patrick Arman, picked up the win today in his final home start of his collegiate career with a single run allowed off four hits, two walks, and six punchouts of his own. Relievers C Brougham and R Poling combined for the final 1.2 innings of relief and saw two combined batters reach base under their command.

In one of his final collegiate starts, redshirt sophomore designated hitter Roger Viloria was the only Warrior with a multi-hit outing in game one, as he finished 2-for-4 with a single up the middle and a deep standout double to centerfield. Graduate student first baseman Nainoa Ka'ahanui joined Bunn and Clay with the remaining base hits during the early afternoon contest.

For the Owls' offense, centerfielder Riley Cronin was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while shortstop Patrick Barry's two-run triple was the best at-bat of the game for any hitter.

Game 2 – OIT 11, Corban 1 (7 Innings)

After each team exchanged runs in the bottom of the fourth and top of the fifth, the Owls scored ten-consecutive runs over the next three innings to force a run-rule finish to close the regular season for both teams, as leftfielder Matthew Lehrback singled to right centerfield to score pinch hitter Justin Francis and throw OIT's eleventh and final run on the scoreboard.

In his final collegiate appearance, Warriors' senior starter Bryce Bridge tossed 5.1 innings before being relieved for after allowing nine runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out an Owl. Redshirt sophomore reliever Joe Licari secured two outs with a single hit to his stat line, while senior relief pitcher Giovanni Cervantes ended the contest on the mound for his own curtain call among the Warrior Nation faithful in attendance.

Oregon Tech starting pitcher Isaac Hill earned the victory this afternoon with a 6.0 inning appearance with one earned run and two hits against him while striking out six Corban batters. A single clean sheet inning of relief by Brian McClelland wrapped up the OIT pitching from today's doubleheader.

Viloria picked up one of the two Warrior hits in game two in his final NAIA game, with freshman catcher Jeremiah Pinkerton securing the other base knock. Junior rightfielder Noah Owens was the beneficiary of the lone Corban RBI, while Viloria scored the run on Owens' RBI groundout.

Four different Owls had more than a single hit in the series finale, led by Barry and designated hitter Kage Southern's two hits and two runs scored. Rightfielder Julien Jones secured a game-high four RBI, followed closely behind by third baseman Chase Hedani who had two of his own.

The Corban baseball team closes the 2024 season with a 9-38 overall record and 4-20 in conference contest during the first year of Coach Harris' tenure, with a handful of Warriors who will contend for All-Conference and Gold Glove accolades that will be announced later this upcoming week.
