LEWISTON, Idaho – Early foul trouble and an incredibly efficient night of offense by the host institution spelled trouble for the Corban University Women's Basketball team from the opening tipoff tonight in northwestern Idaho, as the Warriors met their Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) mascot doppelgangers in No. 13-ranked Lewis-Clark State College for the first time in 2025 and suffered a 94-48 loss at the P1FCU Activity Center earlier this evening.
"Tonight, LC State's pressure really bothered us and it's really hard to win a game when you had twenty-seven turnovers," Corban head coach Kylie Frizell explained. "The good news is we are able to learn from this and have plenty of season left to be played."
While senior guard Alyssa Wyllie was able to keep the Corban (6-10, 4-6) offense alive early with the first five points scored by the Navy and Gold, turnovers and unnecessary fouls began to add up and doom the visiting Warriors through all four quarters, including an opening period where they scored just seven points compared to 18 for LC State (14-2, 8-2).
A 29-point second quarter opened up a massive lead for the hometown Warriors who jumped out to a 47-22 halftime lead and never looked back, as they finished the contest shooting over 50% from the field and hung 94 total points over 40 minutes of regulation. Meanwhile, 27 total turnovers by Corban resulted in 42 points off turnovers for LC State, compared to just five for a Navy and Gold team that shot 33.9% for the contest.
Wyllie finished with a team-high 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting for Corban, along with five rebounds and a pair of steals and assists. Senior forward Madison Hodnett pitched in 12 points but could only play 13 minutes due to four personal fouls, while senior guard Gemma LaVergne was the only visiting Warrior to score points off the bench.
Lewis-Clark State forward Darian Herring submitted the first ever triple-double in school/program history with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists in a game-high 29 minutes played, while also snagging four steals and swatting four blocks. Guard Sitara Byrd scored a game-high 26 points and fell one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards, along with 21 points by guard Ellie Sander.
Corban women's basketball returns to the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center for the first time this calendar year next weekend, beginning with The Evergreen State College (2-9, 2-7) on Friday at 5:30pm.
