ASHLAND, Ore. – Despite multiple opportunities to seal a home win, the host RV Raiders of Southern Oregon University were unable to prevent a scrappy Corban University Men's Soccer squad from tying today's matchup on two separate occasions, as the Warriors scored twice over the final twenty minutes of regulation to escape Ashland with a crucial point in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings.
"It was great to see the guys respond the way they did today," explained Corban head coach Tim Kagey earlier this afternoon. "We had a great week of training and it showed in today's comeback effort. We are focused on tomorrow now."
Thanks to a standout performance from redshirt senior goalkeeper Isaac Pureco, the Warriors (4-8-3, 2-4-3) were able to pick up the vital road draw against the receiving-votes Raider team (9-3-3, 4-3-2) to keep their postseason hopes alive with three contests still to be played. Pureco kept Southern Oregon off the scoreboard for the entire first half and eight minutes into the second half before midfielder Jayden Cameron threaded the opening goal in the 54th minute.
However, nearly twenty minutes later, redshirt sophomore defender Aaron James provided the Navy and Gold with the first of two game-tying header goals, as freshman defender Damian Duenas connected on a free kick from 15 yards outside the penalty box in the 72nd minute.
With under ten minutes to play, SOU once again jumped in front on a corner kick set piece attempted by midfielder Daniel Palomino, finding defender Agustin Gannat in the back of the goalkeeper's box for their own header score.
Less than a minute later, sophomore midfielder Josiah Solorzano replicated Gannat's goal after a Raider penalty just outside the penalty box resulted in a free kick for senior forward Nathan Martinez, who sliced a cross up and over every Southern Oregon defender to convert the try with Solorzano. SOU outshot the Warriors 24-13 on the day and 12-7 in shots on goal, yet Corban men's soccer persisted and continued to find way to earn the road draw in Raider Stadium.
Martinez, Solorzano, junior midfielder Alejandro Andrade, and sophomore forward Alexander Guindy all had two shots today to lead the Warrior offense, while Palomino and Gannat led six SOU attackers with three shots apiece. Gannat and defender Tristan Skerritt each had three shots on goal to lead all players.
Pureco ended with a game-high ten saves to double up Raiders' goalkeeper Casey Ruvolo on the day, as the SOU senior allowed just as many goals as Pureco but hauled in only five saves for a .714 save percentage compared to .800 for his Corban counterpart.
One final 2025 road game is in store for Corban men's soccer tomorrow afternoon in Klamath Falls, as the Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech (6-4-4, 4-4-1) will host the Warriors on their Senior Day for a 2:30pm kickoff.
