Corban Women’s Basketball Fights to Bitter End Against No. 23 Oregon Tech

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Corban University Women's Basketball team gave their nationally ranked opponents all they could handle for all four quarters tonight at Danny Miles Court yet couldn't quite overcome the No. 23-ranked Oregon Tech Lady Owls' rebounding dominance to fall 70-60 on the road.

A hot start to tonight's contest is exactly what the Warriors (10-13, 8-9) needed heading into their rematch with the Lady Owls (18-4, 14-2) in the Klamath Basin, as they shot 33% from the field while holding OIT to under 32% to lead by five at the end of the first period.

However, Oregon Tech scored the first 13 points out of the break and Corban didn't see their first points scored until a three-pointer by sophomore guard Lizzy Bennett with under five minutes to play in the first half, with the Navy and Gold now trailing 26-21. Following a three-point shot that was waved off after review for the Warriors, despite another longball shot from senior guard Alyssa Wyllie to represent the last shot of the second quarter, Corban women's basketball would trail by one at 28-27 entering halftime.

Another scoring barrage by the Lady Owls to kick off the second half proved to be the difference in tonight's matchup, as the Navy and Gold trailed for the remainder of the contest and only pulled to within a single possession once in the third quarter despite shooting the ball well, only Oregon Tech shot the ball just as well to keep Corban at bay on their home court.

Offensively, the Warriors were led by Wyllie and her team-best 14 points, hitting a pair of three-pointers and 6-of-10 field goals for the game. Bennett pitched in another ten points, while redshirt sophomore guard Jenna Albrecht scored nine points with four rebounds off the glass.

The nationally ranked Lady Owls secured their second-straight win thanks to a game-high 19 points from forward Jozie Ramos, along with 14 points by guard Brooke Anderson. Guard Tatum Schmerbach scored 12 points and forward Alexis Elquist pitched in 10 more to represent the remainder of OIT student-athletes in double-figure scoring. Elquist dominated the post with 16 rebounds for a double-double performance, while Schmerbach dished out a game-high six assists.

The Warriors will brave the winter weather and head west to Ashland for their rematch with the No. 4-ranked Southern Oregon University Raiders (22-0, 16-0), with tipoff scheduled for 3pm tomorrow afternoon.
