Knights Complete Game One Comeback, Warriors Hand WPU Game Two Win for Day One Road Sweep

AURORA, Ore. – A late-inning and early-game pair of comeback wins for the host institution saw the Corban University Baseball team drop their Friday doubleheader at North Marion High School, as the Warriors dropped 9-5 and 16-5 decisions to Warner Pacific University to open their final weekend of the 2025 regular season.

"Jackson pitched fantastic for us today, had a no-hitter through five innings and was in complete command," Warriors' head coach Ryan Harris detailed. "We had a nice lead going into the sixth, then they broke up the no-hitter and that sparked the offense to have a big inning, and we didn't get anything going after that. Just really an unfortunate loss, thought we took our foot off the gas when we were in complete command. Game two was just bad. We walked ten, hit six guys, and Warner didn't have a hit till the fourth inning, and we were losing 8-4 at that point. Not much to say other than we just have to be better than that. Last two contests of the year tomorrow have a chance to win our last games of the year."

Game 1 – Warner Pacific 9, Corban 5

A tale of two halves represents the Warriors' (12-36, 7-28) game one performance against the Knights (11-31, 10-25), as for the first five innings played, the Corban offense put five runs on the board whilst junior starting pitcher Jackson Young took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning where everything was going Corban's way.

Then in the bottom of the sixth, Warner Pac finally managed some offense and broke through with seven runs while their bullpen picked up the slack and managed to secure a 9-5 win in the series' opener on their third different "home" field in 2025 through five series hosted.

Young suffered his second loss of the year after allowing six runs off five hits and two walks while striking out a game-high four batters in 5.1 innings. Redshirt sophomore reliever Eddie Gould tossed the final 2.2 frames and saw three runs scored on three hits while striking out two batters.

Warner Pac game one starter Ayden Yaeger was tagged for five runs on six hits with four walks allowed early on but managed to settle in for 6.0 innings overall with four strikeouts to pick up the winning decision. Reliever Jaxon Hamada allowed only one baserunner the rest of the contest along with a trio of punchouts.

Senior rightfielder Noah Owens finished 2-for-4 in the opener of his final collegiate series, tallying two RBI to match junior centerfielder Chase Elliott from the leadoff spot with his two RBI on his two-run homer to open scoring in the third inning. Senior first baseman Drew DeMasi, junior second baseman Peyton Rickard, and redshirt junior catcher Joshua Miyazawa all picked up base hits as well for Corban baseball.

The only multi-hit outing of game one for WPU came from designated hitter Alex Nisbet who was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while shortstop Connor Hale tallied two RBI on his own two-run home run to match Elliott.

Game 2 – Warner Pacific 16, Corban 5 (7 Innings)

The Warriors' handed the Knights a run-rule win in game two after walking in six of their 16 runs, with three more scoring on Corban's five fielding errors for a trio of unearned runs. Of the 16 runs allowed by the Navy and Gold in game two, only two crossed home plate off a WPU hit.

Freshman starter John Brabb allowed four earned runs off six walks and three hit batters across 2.0 innings to open the matchup, before a trio of relievers in sophomore Avery Williamson, graduate student Tanner Boe, and junior Joshua Pedronan tossed the final 4.0 innings combined with another ten runs off eight hits, four walks, and three hit batsmen.

A complete-game effort from Knights' starter Josiah Nickel earned him his first win on the year, as he surrendered five runs across 7.0 innings alongside nine hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.

Senior third baseman Ryan Clay picked up another three hits with two games left to be played out in his collegiate career, pulling him to 199 career hits and just one away from becoming the fourth Warrior in program history to secure 200 career base knocks. Elliott had another two hits and sophomore Lucas Mertlich had two RBI off his second inning two-run homer.

Warner Pacific's offense was outhit by Corban in game two, but three hits from third baseman Trenten Lowe saw the home team on the scoreboard pick up the win regardless. Rightfielder Mason Deverna went 0-for-3 yet scored three runs against the Warriors' defensive mistakes.

One final doubleheader awaits the Warriors tomorrow at North Marion High School, as they'll battle the Knights once again with 11am and 2pm start times scheduled for some Saturday afternoon CCC baseball.
