SALEM, Ore. – Nearly the entire No. 4-ranked Corban University Women's Volleyball team saw court time this evening on Tim Hills Court, as the Warriors secured a three-set sweep over Warner Pacific University to improve to 2-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action via 25-11, 25-12, and 25-13 set scores. This marks the second-consecutive contest that the Navy and Gold offense was held unaccounted for at the net, as the Warriors (8-1, 2-0) hammered the Knights (0-2, 0-1) for 40 team kills and only ten errors for a .326 kill percentage. Meanwhile, the Warner Pac offense was held to a negative kill percentage in all three sets played with 17 total kills and 24 attacking errors.
"I am proud of how the team came together and played as one," Corban head coach Kim McLain detailed earlier tonight. "Warner Pacific brought great energy and forced us to stay sharp throughout the match. Everyone stepped up, and it was a total team effort."
From the opening serve to the final point of the contest, the Warriors held the momentum and never relinquished despite some long rallies that eventually led to scoring plays for WPU throughout the match that would ever so slightly sway the energy in the building towards the Knights' bench. However, an 8-0 advantage in service aces combined with over doubling up on Warner Pac in kills for the contest resulted in the lopsided home victory for Corban women's volleyball.
Senior opposite hitter Makayla Roginski saw her eight-game double-digit kill streak come to an end tonight, yet was still able to lead all players with eight kills alongside junior outside hitter Kendra Bittle. The middle blocking duo of senior Gracie Boeder and redshirt freshman Jenna Konzelman were unstoppable at the net tonight, as they both finished with seven kills and no errors for incredibly high conversion rates offensively of 53.8% and 63.6%, respectively, and each had multiple blocks at the net.
Freshman defensive specialist Callie Aplin rose to the occasion in a busy night for the Central Point native, as she dug up a game-high 12 digs in the backcourt and secured a pair of service aces to set her career-high marks in both categories. Junior libero Kaile'a Ontai picked up her usual double-digit digs tally with ten, while senior setter Abby Guindy dealt out a game-high 20 assists with eight digs.
Warner Pac was led by outside hitters Tayah-Anne Toa (5 kills) and Summer Martin (4 kills) offensively, while libero Angel Camagay tied Aplin for the game-high dig total with 12 of her own. Setters Audrey Histed and Pa'oakalani Payne-Kaeo combined for 16 of the team's 17 assists and seven total digs.
The Warriors will take the weekend to rest before preparing for their next set of home contests the following weekend, as Northwest University (6-0, 0-0) and The Evergreen State College (0-4, 0-0) will visit Tim Hills Court for 6pm and 4pm first serves on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
