Corban Men’s Basketball Defense Picks Walla Walla Pockets in Return to Win Column

SALEM, Ore. – A season-high 27 turnovers forced this afternoon by the Corban University Men's Basketball team allowed the Warriors to bounce back from a home loss last weekend in emphatic fashion, dominating the visiting Wolves of Walla Walla University 98-64 in a dual offensive & defensive outing for the Navy and Gold.

"It was a decisive win with a number of key contributors from several players," expressed Corban head coach Wayne Mendezona. "Oreon set the tone with aggressive rebounding and strong defense. Anjay came alive in the second half with great energy and a lot of spectacular finishes. Overall, it was a great team win and we're hoping to continue tomorrow in a big matchup against a Lewis-Clark State program with will represent a formidable opponent."

A much-needed return to the win column for the Warriors (7-8, 4-5) after dropping a home contest last weekend came in an all-around team effort, as thirteen different players scored points and seven earned at least one steal as the Corban defense caused fits for the Wolves' (0-12, 0-6) offense. By the halftime break, the Dubs had stacked up a 24-point lead they refused to relinquish on Tim Hills Court.

Four different student-athletes were in double-figure scoring today for the Navy and Gold, led by redshirt junior center Tj Zimmermann and his game-high 17 points. Junior guard Joe Gould added 14 points alongside six assists and five steals, while graduate student forward Oregon Courtney once again neared a triple-double with 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists after clinching his first as a Warrior in their most recent matchup.

Walla Walla 7-foot center Soren Dalan scored a team-best 16 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double output with nine boards. Guard Jordany Fils-Aime was the only other Wolf in double-digits with 11 points, adding four steals and four rebounds along the way.

Corban men's basketball will attempt to keep their winning ways intact tomorrow against their mascot doppelgangers from Idaho, as RV Lewis-Clark State College (11-4, 5-2) visits at 5pm for the first Battle of the Warriors in the new calendar year.
