SALEM, Ore. – It was all Warriors in the Friday afternoon matinee start against the Wolves of Walla Walla University, as the No. 18-ranked Corban University Women's Basketball team caught fire from beyond the three-point arc to set a program record en route of a 105-48 blowout Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) victory.
"Tonight was a great win for us on all fronts," Warriors' head coach Kylie Frizell explained. "I love how we kept the ball flowing from both ends to have twenty-seven assists on thirty-eight made field goals. We love to celebrate one another, and I think that really shows in how we play and in our confidence shooting the ball from anywhere on the court."
Despite just eight three-pointers at the halftime break after taking 22 in the opening 20 minutes of gameplay, the CCC's highest scoring offense at 82.7 points per game hit from deep at will in the second half, with the Warriors (13-2, 6-1) finishing today's contest against the Wolves (2-11, 0-7) with a program record 19 made three-pointers. Today's offensive resulted in four more three-pointers than they've ever made in a contest before, alongside only three less points and three less assists. The Navy and Gold set a season-high in points to improve to 16th nationally in scoring.
Additionally, the Corban defense allowed just 16 made field goals on a 31.4% success rate to Walla Walla, doubling up the Wolves on the scoreboard after the Corban full court press forced 27 turnovers with over half of them stolen by a Warrior. All of the Wolves' three-point shots came in the second quarter, finishing the matchup 4-for-19 (21.1%) overall.
The CCC's reigning freshman of the year, redshirt sophomore guard Jersey Huerta, did a little bit of everything today for Corban, as she scored a game-high 20 points while dishing out the game-high assist mark with seven alongside with seven rebounds to flirt with triple-double territory. True freshman guard Izzy McCauley added a career-high 18 points with a game-high eight boards, while junior guard Tayla Yost scored 12 points and snagged a career-high five steals. Graduate student center Emilia Bishop and senior forward Mandie Jensen each tossed in 11 points in reduced minutes to allow the complete bench to stretch their legs.
Walla Walla was led by guard Brooklyn Coe and her team-high 16 points, with guard Jaylo Bello tacking on 13 points and snagging four steals. Coe and Bello were the only double-digit scorers for the Wolves, with five other student-athletes finding the bottom of the basket for at least two points.
The first edition of the Battle of the Warriors in 2026 will come with massive implications in postseason seeding, as Corban will host No. 15-ranked Lewis-Clark State College (11-4, 5-2) at 3pm looking for their first head-to-head win against LC State since 2004.
