Warrior Defense Clamps Down as RV Corban Cruises Past Lewis & Clark to Clinch Corban Classic Sweep

SALEM, Ore. – The RV Corban University Women's Basketball team wrapped up a perfect weekend at the 2026 Corban Classic on Saturday evening, using another dominant defensive effort and balanced offensive attack to dispatch NCAA DIII Lewis & Clark College by a 91-42 final inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

"Another solid win tonight as we continue to execute our high-tempo style of basketball," shared Warriors' head coach Kylie Frizell. "We've really started to get into a rhythm offensively, which is difficult for our opponents to keep up with across 40 minutes, and one of the cooler things we've been able to see thus far is the amount of depth we have across our roster. Getting the buy-in we've had from our players so far has been integral in our success of being able to press defensively while running head down on the offensive end. Still need to work on limiting turnovers and offensive rebounds to opponents, but overall, a solid weekend at home."

One night after eclipsing the century mark against Simpson University, the Navy and Gold (3-1) turned in one of their most complete performances of the young season, never trailing and forcing 29 turnovers en route to a 49-point victory. The Warriors held the Pioneers (0-2) to just 28.1% shooting from the field and a 1-for-12 mark from beyond the arc, while building a lead that eventually swelled to 50 points in the fourth quarter.

A pair of early three-pointers from redshirt junior guard Jersey Huerta, coupled with a triple and layup from sophomore guard Izzy McCauley, helped the Warriors sprint out to an 11-3 advantage less than four minutes into the contest. The Navy and Gold continued to pressure the Lewis & Clark ballhandlers throughout the opening period and closed the quarter on a 14-4 run, highlighted by triples from redshirt freshman guard Ava Mai, junior guard Kylie Ihrig, and junior guard Nina Peterson, to carry a 22-11 lead into the second quarter.

Corban held the Pioneers scoreless for nearly three minutes to open the second frame while extending the lead to 17 points. Huerta scored seven points in the quarter, while junior guard Abigail Winslow sparked the second unit with six points as the Dubs outscored Lewis & Clark 23-11 in the period and took a commanding 45-22 advantage into the locker room.

Any hopes of a Pioneer comeback were quickly extinguished after the break. Corban forced eight third-quarter turnovers and opened the half on a 13-3 run fueled by Huerta, McCauley, and senior guard Tayla Yost. By the midway point of the frame, the Warriors had pushed their advantage beyond thirty points, eventually entering the fourth quarter with a 66-33 cushion.

McCauley knocked down an early three-pointer to begin the fourth, Huerta capped her evening with three free throws after being fouled on her final field goal attempt before subbing out for some reserve minutes, and the Warrior bench continued to add to the margin. Sophomore guard Addy Sinclair scored eight points and recorded a pair of steals, while Winslow added 13 points, three rebounds, and two assists in just 16 minutes of work. Corban closed the night on a 25-9 fourth-quarter surge to seal its second consecutive convincing victory.

Huerta led the Dubs with 23 points on an ultra-efficient 8-for-9 shooting performance, connecting on four of her five attempts from long range while dishing out three assists and collecting a steal in only 18 minutes of action. McCauley continued her strong start to the season with 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

The Warriors showcased their depth throughout the contest, receiving 43 points from the bench and scoring 41 points off Lewis & Clark turnovers. Mai added seven points and two assists, Peterson contributed five points, and redshirt junior guard Lizzy Bennett filled the stat sheet with six points, six rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal. Sophomore forward Lucy Nyborg hauled in seven rebounds, while Yost chipped in five boards, two assists, one block, and one steal.

For Lewis & Clark, Lilly Jordan paced the visitors with 11 points, while Kaela Guidry added 10 points and seven rebounds. The only River Otter to hit over 50% of her field goals on the night was Ky Roussin, who finished with eight points on 4-for-6 shooting.

With the victory, Corban finished a perfect 2-0 weekend at the 2026 Corban Classic and improved to 3-1 overall on the season. The Warriors will now turn their attention to the Beacon Classic, hosted by fellow CCC member Bushnell University next Friday and Saturday. Corban will meet with NCAA DIII Linfield University (0-0) at 5pm on the 13th.
