SALEM, Ore. – Corban University pitchers were the story on the opening day of the 2026 Cascade Conference season, but British Columbia scratched across just enough offense to sweep a doubleheader this afternoon at Warrior Field.
UBC (8-5, 2-0 CCC) used a 6-run seventh to break a scoreless tie to win Game 1, 6-0, while the T-Birds rallied in the late innings to claim a 3-1 Game 2 victory.
Miranda Scovil was outstanding for the Warriors (0-8, 0-2), taking a shutout into the seventh inning against the 2025 NAIA Tournament qualifier, but Jessica Heutink broke up the shutout bid with a 2-run single, starting the big inning for the Canadian side.
Carleen Murray went the distance for UBC, limiting the Navy and Gold to only a third inning lead off single from Leata Senio, striking out 12, in the victory.
In the nightcap, the Warriors broke through in the second, as Irene VanDyke singled, stole second and moved to third on a Kaiya Peterson single. After VanDyke was thrown out at the plate on a Senio fielders' choice, Breanna Crosby lined a double into the right-center gap to score Peterson with the first run of the game.
Starter Vanessa Quinones did not allow a run until the fifth, when UBC plated a run on a passed ball and took the lead on an Anna Bromley sacrifice fly. The T-Birds would added an insurance run in the sixth, with Murray retiring the final six batters to earn a save.
McKenna Hanson, VanDyke, Peterson and Crosby each had one hit for Corban, with Quinones, Kate Banks and Scovil combining to limit UBC to three total hits.
The two teams close out the weekend series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
