MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Through five contests to date, the Corban University Women's Soccer program has battled through 90 minutes of gameplay to finish in a 1-0 final score on four occasions, ending up on the wrong side of a solo-goal match for a third time tonight at NCAA DIII Linfield University, where the Wildcats scored just over a minute into the second half and held on for the remainder of the contest against a hobbled Warrior lineup.
"I thought our group competed hard for the full 90 minutes," head coach Tim Kagey said. "Jordyn gave us a chance to stay in the game, and our back line battled throughout. We'll learn from this performance but must immediately adjust with our non-conference finale tomorrow night."
The non-conference slate has certainly impacted the Navy and Gold (2-3-0) roster, as several starters were sidelined or limited due to nagging injuries in tonight's 1-0 loss to the Wildcats (2-1-0). Despite the limited roster, the Warriors held Linfield to just one goal off 22 shots, half of which came on goal and were exhausted thanks to 13 corner kick opportunities.
The Wildcats applied pressure from the opening whistle, generating 11 first-half shots and 10 corner kicks while forcing Corban's back line to remain organized throughout the first half. Warriors' redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Jordyn Labajo was up to the task, making three saves in the first half and helping the Warriors carry a scoreless draw into the halftime break.
Corban's best opportunity of the first half came in the 30th minute when junior forward Kylah Sprague generated the Warriors' first shot of the night, but the attempt drifted wide as the match remained deadlocked.
The decisive moment came just 68 seconds into the second half. Following a series of halftime substitutions, Linfield midfielder Lena Caballero Uhtoff found Julia Alvarez in the attacking third, and the Wildcat forward converted the chance in the 47th minute for the match's lone goal.
Facing a 1-0 deficit, the Warriors continued to battle while absorbing consistent pressure from the hosts. Corban's strongest chance to level the match arrived in the 68th minute when redshirt senior forward Kelli Huskic placed a shot on target, but Wildcat goalkeeper Tati Zahajko came up with the save to preserve Linfield's advantage. Corban earned a late corner kick in the closing minutes and continued pushing for an equalizer, but the Wildcats held on for the narrow victory.
Labajo turned in one of the strongest performances of her first season as a Warrior to date, recording eight saves while facing 22 total shots and 11 shots on goal. Huskic accounted for Corban's lone shot on frame, while Sprague registered the Warriors' other shot attempt. Defensively, Labajo, senior midfielder Gabrielle Nakamura, freshman forward Haley Miersma, junior defender Meliah Servatius, sophomore defender Kate Dickson, and freshman defender Ellie Stickles all played the full 90 minutes in Corban's setback.
Sydney Garner paced the Wildcat attack with five shots and three shots on target, while Zahajko secured the shutout with one save. Linfield finished with advantages in shots (22-2), shots on goal (11-1), and corner kicks (13-1).
Labajo's eight-save performance marked a season high and helped keep the Warriors within striking distance throughout the evening. Despite the loss, Corban has surrendered one goal or fewer in each of its first five matches of the 2026 campaign, highlighting the continued strength of the Warrior defensive unit.
Corban will return to Salem tomorrow night to close out their non-conference slate, as they'll welcome Stanton University (2-3-1) to the Outdoor Athletic Complex for a 7pm kickoff.
