No. 6 Warriors Compete at Ash Creek Collegiate as Early Season Development Continues

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The No. 6-ranked Corban University men's cross country team continued its early-season slate on Friday evening at the Ash Creek Collegiate, utilizing another developmental lineup as the Warriors slowly prepare for the championship-contending segment of the 2026 campaign. Facing a field that included NCAA DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, and junior college competition, Corban placed 10th in the team standings while once again gaining valuable experience for runners working to earn a starting lineup spot in one of the nation's top-ranked programs.

"I'm pleased with how the guys who were competing out there for us today did," began Corban head coach Stuart Eagon. "Again, for a second week in a row, we sat out probably nine out of our top 10 runners, but we saw some major improvements from a few of our guys following last week's meet, so I was really pleased with that."

Corban finished 10th in the final team standings with 255 points in Western Oregon University's home meet, with the Wolves scoring 17 points after placing five runners inside the top 11 to win their own race, while Portland State University (73), Simon Fraser University (93), Seattle University. (97), and Lewis & Clark College (103) rounded out the top-five teams.

Leading the Warrior contingent was redshirt freshman Palmer Detta, who turned in an impressive performance with a 45th-place finish and a time of 19:59.14. Freshman Caleb McDowell followed in 57th place at 20:31.26, while freshman Wyatt Nickell crossed the line in 67th place with a mark of 21:03.52. Sophomore Ethan DeyArmin was Corban's fourth scorer, finishing 70th overall in 21:12.56, and sophomore Kirby McNeil completed the scoring lineup in 72nd place with a time of 21:23.77. Senior Jamin Potloff added an 87th-place finish in 22:30.21.

The individual race was won by Western Oregon's Matthew Resnik, who crossed the finish line in 17:43.87. Teammates Zander Campbell (17:50.54), Remedan Seman (17:53.73), and Ethan Bothwell (17:53.91) helped Western Oregon sweep the top four spots, while Lewis & Clark's Quinn Higgins rounded out the top five with a time of 18:04.17.

While the team result does not fully reflect the capabilities of the nationally ranked Corban squad, Friday's race provided another important opportunity for the Warriors' depth runners to compete against quality opposition. With the season's primary goals still centered on the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships and the NAIA National Championships, Corban continues to build experience and race fitness throughout its roster as the fall progresses.

The Warriors will have several weeks to prepare before returning to competition on October 3rd at the Willamette Invitational in Salem, where Corban is expected to continue evaluating its lineup against another strong field as the regular season continues.
