Youthful Warrior Lineup Opens 2026 Season for No. 6 Corban Men’s Cross Country Program

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The No. 6-ranked Corban University men's cross country team opened its 2026 season on Friday evening at the Linfield Harrier Classic, using the season-opening meet as an opportunity to gain valuable race experience for a group largely comprised of youthful, growing runners. Competing without nine of the program's top 10 runners from a timing perspective, the Warriors still turned in a solid performance against a deep field featuring NCAA DI University of Portland, nationally ranked NAIA programs, and several regional competitors at Joe Dancer Park.

"We sat out nine of our top ten guys today, but the guys that did run had some solid performances," shared Warriors' head coach Stuart Eagon. "I'm happy with how Kai ran and it's great to have Palmer out there running, which he wasn't able to do much of last year. Stephen ran a great race for us today and has made huge improvements this summer. It's fun for us to get to see guys that might not be on our conference team really get pushed to the forefront at some of these early meets and get the opportunity to be among our top guys. I'm really excited for the season and just saying praise God for a lot of the improvements would've made this summer."

While the final team standings showed Corban placing 11th with 342 points, the result does not fully reflect the strength of a Warrior squad currently ranked sixth in the nation entering the 2026 campaign. With most of the team's top runners held out of competition, Friday's race served as an early-season evaluation opportunity for Corban's depth and emerging contributors as the Warriors continue preparations for the championship portion of the schedule.

Portland claimed the team championship with 15 total points, followed by No. 7-ranked The College of Idaho (60), Southwestern Oregon Community College (140), Lane Community College (144), and NCAA DIII Pacific University (208). Corban's developmental lineup battled throughout the 6,000-meter course to finish ahead of both Willamette and Umpqua Community College while gaining valuable experience against a highly competitive field.

The individual race was dominated by the Pilots, who swept the top five positions. Adam Lippe earned the race victory in 17:51.4, followed by Bodie Alderson (17:51.5), Aaron Rovnak (17:54.5), Collin Penuel (18:05.8), and Mason Morical (18:06.3).

Corban was led by sophomore Kai Kearns, who crossed the finish line in 20:21.8 to place 44th overall. Redshirt freshman Palmer Detta followed as the Warriors' second finisher, recording a time of 20:41.1 for 56th place. Sophomore Stephen Crover was third among Corban runners, finishing 77th in 21:39.1. Junior Talan Warkentin placed 82nd with a time of 21:57.8, while sophomore Ethan DeyArmin rounded out the scoring five in 83rd at 22:06.3. Sophomore Kirby McNeil added a 22:57.3 performance, while senior Jamin Potloff completed the Corban contingent with a time of 23:08.2.

With the majority of the nationally ranked roster not competing, the meet allowed several Warriors to gain meaningful race experience while showcasing the depth of one of the NAIA's premier cross country programs over recent years. The experience gained at Linfield should prove valuable as Eagon begins integrating more of his top lineup into competition in the coming weeks.

The Warriors will return to action on September 11th at the Ash Creek Collegiate, where Corban is expected to continue its early-season preparations against another strong field as the team builds toward the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships and NAIA National Championships.
