Five Warriors Score in Double Figures in Loss at Pacific

BOX SCORE

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Senior Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) led a quintet of Warriors in double figures with a team-high 19 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field, as Corban's men's basketball team fell to the Boxers of Pacific, 94-81, Saturday night inside the Pacific Athletic Center.

In the final game of a three-night, three-game stretch, five Warriors contributed double-digit scoring efforts led by Douglas and sophomore Ian Logan's (Aloha, Ore.) 17-point performance respectively.

Corban got off to a fast start, leading the game for the first nine minutes with its largest lead coming with 13:05 showing on the clock (13-9) via a conventional three-point play by Douglas. Unfortunately, the Warriors' lead would not last as Pacific used a 6-2 run to knot the game at 15-all with 11:41 remaining in the first half. The Warriors would regain the lead shortly after, eventually taking a game-high five point lead (24-19) with 8:19 left in the first half thanks to a lay-in by Logan. Pacific took the lead back with 6:45 left in the first half, and eventually pulled it to a four-point advantage (30-26) before Douglas canned a pair of free-throws to bring the Boxer lead back to two. The Warriors and Boxers battled back and forth, with six lead changes to finish the half, with jumpers by Douglas and junior Paul Martin (Aloha, Ore.) to go along with a free throw by sophomore Bryan Martin (Salem, Ore.) for the margin of seven (42-35) at the half.

Logan brought the Boxer lead to within five (42-37) with a jumper a mere 16 seconds into the second half. Sophomore Clay Martin (Aloha, Ore.) slashed the lead to three (44-41) via a lay-up with 18:48 left in the game. The Warriors kept the game within reach (52-47) with a pair of jumpers from freshman Eric Cronrath (Battle Ground, Wash.) and Paul Martin with 16:17 left. From there, Pacific took control of the game thanks to a 9-2 run over the next 1:42 and grabbed an insurmountable 12-point lead (59-47) with 14:35 left in the contest. The Boxers put the game out of reach late in the game pushing the lead to 18 (94-76) with a mere 1:54, as Corban attempted to comeback via a game-closing 5-0 run that was too little, too late as the final score went the Boxers' way (94-81).

Along with Douglas and Logan's team-leading performances, Paul Martin and senior Ben Potloff (Keizer, Ore.) contributed a pair of 12-point performances to go along with Cronrath and Clay Martin, who tallied 10 and seven points respectively. On the boards, Clay Martin pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to go along with Paul Martin's six-assist performance.

Pacific was led by Garold Howe, who recorded game highs of 25 points and 12 rebounds. Meanwhile, three other Pacific -- Carson Bartlett, Jonathan Jury, and A.J. Gaulton -- contributed double-digit point performances as well as a 15-point performance from Micah Mooney off the bench. On the glass, Howe was aided by Mooney's five-rebound effort to go along with Jury's game-high seven assists.

As a team, the Warriors shot 28-for-54 (51.0%) from the field to go along with a 2-for-7 (28.6%) showing from long distance and a 23-for-37 (62.2%) performance at the free throw line.  On the other hand, Pacific was 35-for-66 (53.0%) from the floor to go along with a 10-for-24 (41.7%) showing from beyond the arc and a 14-for-21 (66.7%) performance at the charity stripe.

With the loss, Corban falls to 1-3 overall this season, as Pacific gathers its first win of the season improving to 1-2. The Warriors return to action Thursday, November 27th, in a Thanksgiving Day nightcap against the NAIA's No. 30-ranked Crusaders of Point Loma Nazarene beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside Golden Gymnasium in San Diego, California.
