LA GRANDE, Ore. – Senior
Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) scored a team-high 24 points on 11-for-15 shooting from the field, but Corban's men's basketball team fell to the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon, 77-72, Friday inside the Quinn Coliseum.
In the opening half, Eastern Oregon jumped out to a quick six-point lead (9-3) within the first three-plus minutes before Corban used a 6-0 run to knot the game at 9-9 following a field goal by Douglas with just under 15 minutes remaining. Without hesitation, Eastern Oregon used a 6-0 run of its own to grab a 15-9 lead thanks to a field goal by Dan Stafford with 13:13 left. The visiting Warriors would then use a 7-0 run to take its first lead of the game (16-15) following a field goal by junior
Ben Potloff (Keizer, Ore.) with 10:48 showing on the clock. Corban would then extend its lead to as much as five points (24-19) thanks to another Douglas field goal with just under eight minutes left. The Warriors would hold the lead over the final eight-plus minutes of the opening half until EOU's Paul Carollo knocked down a second chance field goal in the paint with one second left to give the host Mountaineers a slim one-point lead (38-37) heading into intermission.
Sophomore
Clay Martin (Beaverton, Ore.) handed Corban its final lead of the game (39-38) via a three-pointer just 64 seconds into the second half. Eastern Oregon grabbed the lead for good a mere 42 seconds later thanks to a Jeremy Templeton fast break lay-in with 18:24 left in the game. The host Mountaineers would extend its lead to double figures (57-47) with 11:04 remaining thanks to a 17-8 run that was highlighted by a Templeton three-pointer. Corban would get within five points (59-54) thanks to a Martin field goal in the paint with just under seven minutes left. Eastern Oregon would extend the lead back to double digits (66-56) following a Kris Groce three-pointer with 5:15 showing on the clock. Using a never-say-die attitude, Corban used a 7-0 run to pull within three points (66-63) thanks to a Douglas fast break lay-in less than two minutes later. Eastern Oregon would pull ahead by eight points (73-65) with 53 seconds remaining thanks to another Carollo field goal before Corban clawed its way to within five points (75-70) thanks to a Martin lay-in with five seconds left. Despite a pair of free throws by EOU's Groce with four seconds left, Martin capped the game's scoring with a buzzer-beating lay-in for the final margin of five points (77-72).
Besides Douglas' team-high point total, Martin was the only other Warrior to score in double figures with 18 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field. Potloff, sophomore

Eastern Oregon was led by Groce's game-high 25 points on 9-for-16 shooting from the field, while Templeton, Carollo, and Neil Fryer added 12 points each. Carollo led all players with a game-high 14 rebounds, while Templeton handed out a team-best four assists for the Mountaineers.
As a team, Corban shot 31-for-60 (51.7%) from the field to go along with a 5-for-15 (33.3%) showing from three-point land and a 5-for-6 (83.3%) performance at the free throw line. Meanwhile, Eastern Oregon was 29-for-64 (45.3%) from the field that included a 6-for-23 (26.1%) performance from long distance and a 13-for-17 (76.5%) showing from the charity stripe.
With the loss, Corban falls to 6-12 overall and 2-7 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. On the other hand, Eastern Oregon improves to 11-5 overall and evens its CCC record at 4-4. The Warriors will return to action on Saturday, January 17th, against the nationally-ranked 'Yotes of The College of Idaho beginning at approximately 6:30 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time) inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center in Caldwell, Idaho.
