BOX SCORE

LA GRANDE, Ore.
– After posting three straight wins that included a weekend sweep of the Washington schools one week ago, Corban's women's volleyball team hit the road for its final long trip of the season and concluded its two-day adventure with a loss to nationally-ranked Eastern Oregon, 3-0 (13-25, 23-25, 15-25), Saturday inside Quinn Coliseum.

With tonight's setback, Corban drops to 8-14 overall and 6-7 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Eastern Oregon improves to 11-7 overall and 9-4 in conference matches.

For the second match in a row, freshman Chandra Baskoro (Gresham, Ore.) led the Warriors' offense with a match-high tying eight kills and also registered eight digs defensively. Baskoro was aided offensively by a quartet of Corban players – freshman Morgan Hirzel (Fullerton, Calif.), freshman Jenny Harman (Salem, Ore.), sophomore Tiffany Land (Independence, Ore.), and junior Teri Braun (Dallas, Ore.) – that totaled 17 kills, as Hirzel and Harman registered 6 and 5 respectively to go along with Land and Braun's three kills each. Sophomore Megan Dees (Tehachapi, Calif.) and freshman Karisa Calderon (Murrieta, Calif.) combined to hand out 25 assists with Dees leading the Warriors' offense with 16. From her back row position, junior libero Rebecca Franke (Pendleton, Ore.) recorded a match-high 12 digs to go along with Braun's match-high seven blocks (2 solo, 5 assist).

In the opening set, Eastern Oregon quickly built a four-point lead (5-1) before Corban battled back via a 5-2 run to get within a single point (7-6) following a Mountaineer attack error. That was the closest that the Warriors would get, as the host Mounties used a set-closing 18-7 run that was capped by a Corban hitting error for the 25-13 victory.

Set #2 was a back-and-forth affair over the opening 36 combined points with each team scoring 18. After a Harman kill knotted the score at 18-18, Eastern Oregon used a 6-2 run to grab its first set point at 24-20. The Warriors would battle back with three straight points to make the score 24-23 following a Baskoro kill. Unfortunately, Eastern Oregon had an answer to Corban's run when Haley McEnroe ended the middle set with a kill for the Mountaineers' 25-23 win.

The third and final set saw Eastern Oregon grab the lead early and never relinquished it, as Corban could get no closer than one point (12-11) thanks to a Land kill. The host Mountaineers then used an 11-1 run that ended with a combo block by Jessica Lea and Grace Deboodt for a 22-12 lead. Each team would score three more points, but EOU's lead was too much for Corban as the Mounties won the match in sweeping fashion thanks to a 25-15 victory that ended with a match-concluding service ace off the arm of Deboodt.

Eastern Oregon was led by Deboodt and Lea, who each tallied a match-high tying eight kills. Meanwhile, McEnroe and two other Mountaineers – Melanie Ceciliani and Ashleigh Dailey – added 6, 4, and 4 kills respectively. Lea handed out a team-leading 18 assists and registered eight digs defensively to lead the team in that category as well. At the net, Deboodt recorded a team-high six blocks (all assist) as the two squads combined for 30 blocks (16 for Corban vs. 14 for Eastern Oregon) on the night.

Corban will return to the court on Friday, October 23rd, when they host conference rival Concordia beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
