OAKLAND, Calif. – Four players scored in double figures Friday afternoon, as Corban's men's basketball team concluded its season-opening two-game road trip in Northern California with a nail-biting victory over Holy Names, 87-84, inside Tobin Gym.

With its second straight win, Corban opens the 2009-10 season at 2-0. Meanwhile, Holy Names remains winless at 0-3 on its young season.

For the second game in a row, senior Ben Potloff (Keizer, Ore.) led the Warriors in scoring with a game-high 28 points on 9-for-19 shooting that included a 3-for-6 performance from beyond the arc and a 7-for-10 showing at the free throw line.

Potloff was aided by junior Ian Logan (Aloha, Ore.), who tallied his first double-double of the season with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore Erik Cronrath (Battle Ground, Wash.) chipped in with 15 point, while junior Nash Keene (Aumsville, Ore.) poured in a career-high 17 points off the bench thanks to a 5-for-7 shooting performance and a perfect 5-for-5 showing at the free throw line.

Corban began the game with a 7-0 run that was spearheaded by five points from Potloff before Holy Names used a 9-2 run over a span of two-plus minutes to tie the score at 9-9. After Potloff tied the score at 23-all with a free throw at the 6:51 mark of the opening half, Corban used a 7-0 run to take a 30-23 lead following another Potloff free throw just over three minutes later. Holy Names would close the half on an 11-4 run to tie the score (34-34) for the seventh time over the opening twenty minutes after a Johnas Street field goal with 26 seconds remaining.

In the second half, Holy Names would grab an early lead (36-34) after a David Scott field goal 12 seconds into the final frame. Corban would never trail again, as the Warriors used a 22-13 run to grab its largest lead of the game (59-46) after a Cronrath field goal with 13:08 remaining. Keene would give Corban a 12-point lead (76-64) after a three-pointer with just over seven minutes left in the game. Unfortunately, the visiting Warriors' double-digit lead would not hold up when Holy Names used a 14-2 run that knotted the game at 78-78 after a Street three-pointer with 2:05 remaining. Corban would rebuild its lead to five points (85-80) after a Cronrath free throw one minute later and then have to hold on as Holy Names got within one point (85-84) after a David Scott field goal in the waning seconds of the game. A pair of Keene free throws would be the final points for the Warriors, as Holy Names would miss a three-pointer at the buzzer giving Corban to hard-fought victory.

Holy Names was led in scoring by Joshua Smith, who had 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field that included a pair of perfect 3-for-3 showings from beyond the arc and at the free throw line. Smith was aided offensively by Scott's 18 points and eight rebounds. On the boards, Smith would pull down a team-leading nine rebounds to go along with Trey Davis' game-high five assists.

Corban would shot 32-for-61 (52.5%) from the field, while going 6-for-16 (37.5%) from behind the three-point line and 17-for-26 (65.4%) at the free throw line. On the other hand, Holy Names was 34-for-76 (44.7%) from the field that included an 8-for-22 (36.4%) showing from beyond the arc and an 8-for-16 (50.0%) performance at the charity stripe.

The Warriors will return to the Beaver state for a game against Multnomah Bible College on Saturday, November 14th, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Portland.
