KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Sophomore
Erik Cronrath (Battle Ground, Wash.) scored a team-high 18 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the field to go along with a game-high eight rebounds, but it was not enough as Corban's men's basketball team fell to the NAIA's No. 5-ranked Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech, 90-51, Wednesday night at Danny Miles Court.
With tonight's final result, Corban falls to 5-9 overall and remains without a win in Cascade Collegiate Conference play at 0-4. Meanwhile, Oregon Tech improves to 12-3 overall and 3-2 in conference action.
Cronrath was aided scoring-wise by junior
Drew Ross (Cashmere, Wash.) with eight points and five rebounds, while senior
Ben Potloff (Keizer, Ore.) and freshman
Jacob Kopra (Gresham, Ore.) added six points each. Three other Warriors – junior
Bryan Martin (Salem, Ore.), junior
Deonte Johnson (Modesto, Calif.), and sophomore
Jake Mauermann (Clackamas, Ore.) – added four points each, while freshman
Geoffrey Martin (Salem, Ore.) rounded out Corban's scoring with one point off the bench.
With the game knotted at 2-all following a
Bryan Martin jumper less than two minutes into the game, Oregon Tech used a closing 45-19 run en route to grabbing a 26-point lead (47-21) at halftime.
In the second half, Oregon Tech continued to apply the offensive pressure as the Hustlin' Owls grabbed their largest lead of the game (90-51) thanks to a pair of David Clarke free throws with 11 seconds remaining in the game.
Oregon Tech had four players in double figures led by Justin Parnell's game-high 24 points on 9-for-18 shooting from the field. Myles Daley and Andy Siverly added 15 points each, while Joseph Foster added 12 points to round out the Owls' double-digit scorers.
As a team, Corban shot 19-for-55 (35.4%) from the field to go along with a 2-for-10 (20.0%) showing from three-point range and an 11-for-15 (73.3%) performance at the free throw line. On the other hand, Oregon Tech shot 37-for-68 (54.4%) from the field, 9-for-25 (34.0%) from long distance, and 7-for-10 (70.0%) at the charity stripe.
Corban will return to the court tomorrow night – Thursday, December 31st – against the Raiders of Southern Oregon beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m. inside McNeal Pavilion in Ashland.
