BOX SCORE

McMINNVILLE, Ore.
– Despite a team-high 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line by senior Ben Potloff (Keizer, Ore.), Corban's men's basketball team suffered its fifth straight loss this season Saturday night falling to NCAA Division III member Linfield, 80-63, inside Ted Wilson Gymnasium.

After starting the season with four straight wins, Corban has dropped below the .500 mark for the first time at 4-5 overall. Meanwhile, Linfield picks up its first win of the season after dropping its opening two games.

Potloff, who is fourth in the conference in scoring at 19.6 points per game, led the team in scoring for the first time since helping lead Corban to a wire-to-wire win over Multnomah with 22 points. The 6-foot-1 senior guard played a team-high 30 minutes and also added two assists and one rebound.

Aiding Potloff scoring-wise was junior Ian Logan (Aloha, Ore.), who tallied 14 points and a team-high tying six rebounds. Sophomore Jake Mauermann (Clackamas, Ore.) came off the bench to register nine points, while junior Deonte Johnson (Modesto, Calif.) tied Logan's rebound total with six boards as well.

In the opening half, Corban held its largest lead of the game (32-28) following a jumper by freshman Jacob Kopra (Gresham, Ore.) with 6:28 left on the clock. Unfortunately, Linfield would use a 10-0 run over a span of three minutes and 19 seconds to earn a six-point lead (38-32) after a Joseph Vance three-pointer with 3:07 remaining. The visiting Warriors would pull back within two points (40-38) thanks to a closing 6-2 run over the final three-plus minutes, as Potloff closed out the opening half's scoring with a pair of free throws.

The second half belonged to the host Wildcats, as Linfield never relinquished its lead and pushed its advantage to a game-high 22 points (74-52) following a three-pointer by Cody Tesoro with 6:45 left in the game. Corban would trim Linfield's lead to 17 points (80-63) at the final buzzer, as freshman Marcus Butler (Patterson, Calif.) closed out the game's scoring with a free throw.

Linfield had four players in double figures led by Zach Anderson's game-high 20 points on 9-for-17 shooting from the field to go along with a game-high eight rebounds in a reserve role. Three other Wildcats – Kris Rainwater, Tesoro, and Vance – added 18, 16, and 15 points respectively, while Drew Schroeder pulled down seven rebounds.

As a team, Corban shot 20-for-56 (35.7%) from the field to go along with a 5-for-21 (23.8%) performance from three-point distance and an 18-for-27 (66.7%) showing at the free throw line. On the other hand, Linfield was 28-for-60 (46.7%) from the field, 5-for-13 (38.5%) from long distance, and 19-for-24 (79.2%) at the charity stripe.

Corban will return to the hardwood on Tuesday, December 8th, when they host NCAA Division III member George Fox beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
