Warriors Clinch Playoff Spot Thanks to Logan's Game-High in Points Against Oregon Tech

BOX SCORE

SALEM, Ore.
– Sophomore Ian Logan (Aloha, Ore.) lead the charge for the Warriors with his second straight 20-plus point game, but it was not enough as Corban's men's basketball team dropped their final game of the season to the NAIA's No. 10-ranked Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech, 69-46, Saturday night inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

Coming into tonight's match up against Oregon Tech, the Warriors needed either a win or a Northwest loss against the No. 13-ranked Knights of Warner Pacific to propel them into the conference playoffs. Luckily for Corban, Warner Pacific held up to its end of the deal, as they beat Northwest, sending seventh-year head coach Justin Sherwood and the Warriors back to the playoffs for the first time in three years.

In the first half, the Hustlin' Owls jumped out to an early 11-4 lead in just under four minutes of play. A pair of free-throws from freshman Erik Cronrath (Battle Ground, Wash.) and a made three-pointer from Logan brought the lead to two (11-9) with 15:35 showing on the clock. Over the proceeding five minutes and 25 seconds, Oregon Tech would take the lead back to seven-points (21-14) behind a deep three-pointer from Jguwon Hogges with 10:10 showing on clock. Deciding that enough was enough, the Warriors would embark on a 9-2 run thanks to a three-point bucket from freshman Jake Mauermann (Clackamas, Ore.) and a dunk from Cronrath, to give Corban their first lead of the game, 28-27, with 4:28 left in the half. Behind head coach Danny Miles' leadership, the Hustlin' Owls would battle back via a closing 10-4 run that gave OIT a five-point lead (37-32) at the half.

In the second half, Oregon Tech game out firing and in just over a minute of play brought their lead to 11 points (43-32). From there, the Hustlin' Owls would not let the Warriors back into the game going on an 18-9 run over the next 8:52 to take extend their lead to 19 points (60-41) with just 9:56 left in the game. Unfortunately for the Warriors, that lead would be too much to overcome as they would go on to score only five more points the rest of the game. Corban would end the regular season with a 69-46 loss at the hands of the eventual conference co-champion Owls of Oregon Tech.

Besides Logan's game-high 20 points on 9-for-11 shooting from the field, the Warriors were also lead by Cronrath (8 points) and Mauermann (6 points off the bench) respectively. The brother duo of junior Paul Martin (Beaverton, Ore.) and sophomore Clay Martin (Beaverton, Ore.) were held to only six points each on a combined 3-for-15 from the field. Logan also went on to lead the Warriors in rebounds, as he would gather a team-high six boards.

Oregon Tech was lead by the trio of Dustin Parnell, Hogges, and Christian Cavanaugh, who contributed 18, 16, and 13 points respectively. Josh Wetzler would add just two points, but would tally team and game-highs in rebounds and assists with ten and six respectively.

As a team, Corban shot 18-for-47 (38.3%) from the field, including a 5-for-26 (19.2%) in the second half. Behind the arc, the Warriors would tally a 25.0% mark on 4-for-16 shooting and a 6-for-10 (60.0%) showing on the line. On the other side of the court, the visiting Hustlin' Owls would go on to shoot 28-for-49 (57.1%) from the field, including a 9-for-15 (60.0%) showing from three-point range and a 4-for-7 (57.1%) contribution at the charity stripe.

With the loss, Corban drops to 11-18 overall and 7-13 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Meanwhile, Oregon Tech improves to 25-5 overall on the season to go along with a 15-5 showing in the CCC. Thanks to Northwest's loss, the Warriors earn a spot in the upcoming conference playoffs, as the eighth seed. Corban is scheduled for a rematch against the Hustlin' Owls on Wednesday, February 25th, as they will travel to Klamath Falls for a first-round match up that will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Danny Miles Court.
