BOX SCORE

SALEM, Ore.
– Sophomore Ian Logan (Aloha, Ore.), freshman Erik Cronrath (Battle Ground, Wash.), and sophomore Clay Martin (Beaverton, Ore.) combined to score 40 points, but it was not enough as Corban's men's basketball team fell to the NAIA's No. 13-ranked Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon, 82-60, Saturday night inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

Logan led the Warriors in total points with 17 on 5-for-12 shooting from the field to go along with a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line. Cronrath, who made his return to the starting lineup after missing six games with a facial injury and then coming off the bench for the last four, tallied 13 points on 4-for-6 shooting from the field to go along with Martin's 10-point, six-rebound effort.

In the opening two minutes of the game, the Warriors quickly grabbed a 4-0 lead thanks to a jumper by Logan and a lay-in by Martin. Following Martin's inside bucket with 18:16 on the clock, the visiting Mountaineers used a 5-0 run over a span of 42 seconds to grab a slim one-point lead (5-4) with 17:37 left. Both teams would battle back and forth over the next four minutes until the game was knotted for the third time at 10-10. From that point on, Eastern Oregon would begin to pull away from the home team using a 20-10 run over a span of six minutes and 20 seconds en route to securing a 10-point lead (30-20) following a Paul Carollo lay-in with just under seven minutes remaining in the opening half. The visiting Mountaineers would continue pulling away from the Warriors, as EOU secured its largest lead of the opening twenty minutes (38-22) thanks to a Neil Fryer three-pointer with 4:45 on the clock. Corban would pull within 11 points twice (38-27 & 40-29) with the later coming via a pair of Martin free throws with 2:26 left. Over the final two-plus minutes, Eastern Oregon would close the half on a 6-1 run and head into the locker room with a 16-point lead (46-30) thanks to a Sean Dart second-chance lay-in with two seconds hanging on the clock.

Within the first six-plus minutes of the second half, Eastern Oregon would extend its lead to 20 points (57-37) following another Carollo lay-in with 13:21 remaining in the game. Over the next seven minutes, the visiting Mountaineers would continue applying the pressure and extended their lead to a game-high 33 points (77-44) via a 20-7 run that was capped by an old-fashion three-point play by Carollo. The host Warriors would pull within 22 points (77-55) thanks to a free throw by sophomore Nash Keene (Aumsville, Ore.) with 2:52 left before settling for the final margin of 22 points (82-60).

Along with the scoring trio of Logan, Cronrath, and Clay Martin, junior Paul Martin (Beaverton, Ore.) and Keene added eight and four points respectively. Logan was aided on the boards by the Martin brothers – Clay & Paul – who each pulled down six boards to go along with the Aloha High School connection of Logan and the Martins' team-best three assists each.

Eastern Oregon was led by Carollo's game-high tying 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the field and a game-high eight rebounds, while Fryer and Jordan Gregg added 11 and 10 points respectively. Carollo was aided by Fryer and Gregg, who each grabbed seven rebounds to go along with Fryer's game-high six-assist performance. Fryer put together the best all-around game of the night compiling 11 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and a game-high three steals.

As a team, Corban shot 19-for-52 (36.5%) from the field that included a 4-for-13 (30.8%) showing from beyond the three-point line and an 18-for-28 (64.3%) performance at the free throw line. Meanwhile, Eastern Oregon was 33-for-70 (47.1%) from the field to go along with a 9-for-21 (42.9%) performance from long distance and a 7-for-9 (77.8%) showing at the charity stripe.

With the loss, Corban falls to 9-16 overall and 5-11 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. On the other hand, Eastern Oregon remains in a tie for first place in the CCC standings thanks to a 12-4 mark to go along with a 19-5 overall record. The Warriors return to the hardwood on Friday, February 13th, when they travel north to Portland to take on the NAIA's No. 14-ranked Knights of Warner Pacific beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m. inside C.C. Perry Gymnasium.

NOTE: The highlight of tonight's game came at halftime when Corban freshman Tyler Doornink won free text books for a semester compliments of Corban Athletics, the Warrior Athletic Association, and the Corban College bookstore. Doornink connected on a lay-in, free throw, three-pointer, and half court shot within a 30-second time frame. The first-year Corban student sent the “White Out” crowd into a frenzy went his buzzer-beating half court shot hit nothing but net, as Doornink became only the third student in the short three-year history of the event to walk away with the prize.
