Warriors Open New Year With Loss to Simpson

BOX SCORE

REDDING, Calif.
– Sophomore Erik Cronrath (Battle Ground, Wash.) scored a team-leading 17 points on 8-for-16 shooting from the field, but it was not enough as Corban's men's basketball team fell to California Pacific Conference member Simpson, 77-60, Saturday afternoon inside the Heritage Life Center.

With today's result, Corban falls to 5-11 overall and Simpson improves to 3-12 this season.

Cronrath was aided scoring-wise by senior Ben Potloff (Keizer, Ore.), who tallied 12 points on 5-for-12 shooting from the field. On the boards, junior Deonte Johnson (Modesto, Calif.) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with eight points.

In the midst of the Warriors' sixth straight loss, there was a bright spot as Potloff and freshman Jordan Graneto (Keizer, Ore.) connected on Corban's lone three-pointers of the game and helped keep the nation's longest three-point streak alive.

Over the past 768 games, Warrior men's basketball has put together the longest streak in major college basketball as Corban has not gone a game without making at least one three-point basket since December 1, 1987.

Simpson was led in scoring by a pair of Redhawks – Jason Stubbs and Justin Sparks – who tallied 18 points each on a combined 14-for-28 shooting from the field. The SU duo was aided scoring-wise by Andrew Schritter, who tallied 15 points to go along with Sparks' team-high nine rebounds.

As a team, Corban shot 21-for-62 (33.9%) from the field to go along with a 2-for-14 (14.3%) showing from three-point range and a 16-for-29 (55.2%) performance from the free throw line. On the other hand, Simpson was 27-for-63 (42.9%) from the field, 6-for-16 (37.5%) from long distance, and 17-for-19 (89.5%) at the charity stripe.

Corban will return to the court on Friday, January 8th, when they Warriors host conference member Warner Pacific beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.
