BOX SCORE
PORTLAND, Ore. – Junior
Tiffany Land (Independence, Ore.) and senior
Teri Braun (Dallas, Ore.) combined for 20 kills in 30 swings, as Corban's women's volleyball team earned a much-needed three-set sweep over the host Knights of Warner Pacific Saturday inside C.C. Perry Gymnasium.
Land led Corban in the three-set sweep (25-17, 25-12, 25-19) over the Knights with 15 kills. Adding nine kills of her own, sophomore
Chandra Baskoro (Gresham, Ore.) tallied six digs and only committed two hitting errors to go along with Braun's five kills on six swings without an error. Junior
Megan Dees (Tehachapi, Calif.) picked up 24 assists with freshman
Alex Matulewicz (Gresham, Ore.) adding five more to push the Warriors over the top.
In stark contrast to the prior night's match against conference rival, Concordia, Corban came out with a vengeance and took an early 15-5 lead, capped off by a service ace from freshman
Bailey Wold (Spokane, Wash.). The Warriors would not give an inch of the court to the host Knights, pushing the advantage 20-9 coming by way of Land's kill. Wold and Baskoro's kills brought the opening set to a close with a Warrior victory, 25-17.
Set #2 was no different seeing Corban take a commanding 13-5 lead coming via kills by Wold and sophomore
Jenny Harman (Salem, Ore.). A combination of Warner Pacific errors on the defensive side of the ball and consistent pressure from Wold and Baskoro spelled success for the visiting Warriors, taking the set in stride, 25-12.
In the final set of the night, the Warriors fell behind for the first time but quickly regained momentum and pushed the issue with kills by Baskoro, Wold, and Braun. Both squads traded points in the closest competition of the night with the Warriors maintaining a slight lead, 18-15. With the Knights biting at their heels, Land led the Warriors charge to close the match, registering three kills down the stretch to close out the Knights, 25-19.
Warner Pacific, lackluster at best on offense, was led by Rachel Warick's five kills. Samantha Kolakowski and Caitlyn McCall combined for 14 digs to lead the Knights' defense.
With tonight's win, Corban improves to 9-8 overall and 7-8 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. With four matches to play in the season, Corban sits in 6th place and still has playoff life. Meanwhile, Warner Pacific falls to 4-16 overall and 2-12 in league play. The Warriors will return to the court next Friday, October 29th, at home against nationally-ranked Southern Oregon beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
