REDDING, Calif. – Junior Erik Cronrath (Battle Ground, Wash.) led the Warriors with 25 points while senior Ian Logan (Aloha, Ore.) added 14 points and 10 rebounds as Corban's men's basketball team kicked off the 2010-11 season with a 75-60 win over Simpson University on Friday night.
The Warriors started the game with a steady hand, building a 35-27 lead heading into halftime. Continuing to play with a deliberate pace, Corban controlled the second half period as well, winning the period by a score of 40-33 to account for the final 15 point margin of victory.
In addition to the heroics of Cronrath and Logan, a trio of Warriors including senior Nash Keene (Aumsville, Ore.), junior Jonathan Ramirez (New Britain, Ct.), and freshman Jordan Carter (Salem, Ore.) tallied eight points and six rebounds apiece to help Corban to the win. Ramirez led Corban with seven assists.
Corban attempted only 49 shots from the field, shooting 22-for-49 (44.9%) overall, including 5-for-16 (31.3%) from long range. The Warriors controlled the game through free-throws, shooting 26-for-35 from the line behind Cronrath's 11-for-16 effort, and rebounds, as Corban controlled 55 caroms, including 12 on the offensive end.
With the victory, Corban starts the season 1-0 for the second consecutive season. The Warriors continue their northern California road trip by heading to Oakland to face the Hawks of Holy Names University on Saturday, November 6th, in a game scheduled to tip off at 7:00 p.m.
