Warriors Close Out California Trip With Victory

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Closing out a three-game road trip in Northern California, Corban's women's basketball team picked up a come-from-behind win over William Jessup, 78-75, Monday inside the Warrior Dome.

Junior Katie Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) capped an amazing four-day trip with game-highs of 29 points and 12 rebounds, while senior Jennesa Miller (Mica, Wash.) and a pair of sophomores – Tess Bennett (Sutherlin, Ore.) and Emily Tsugawa (Gladstone, Ore.) – added 15, 7, and 7 points respectively. Steigleman was aided on the boards by Miller and senior Rachel Harter (Grass Valley, Calif.), who grabbed six rebounds each.

In the first half, Corban would jump out to a quick eight-point lead (11-3) before watching William Jessup use a 32-23 run en route to taking a one-point lead (35-34) with 4:53 remaining thanks to an Ashley Rose three-pointer. Corban would regroup and close out the half on a 12-0 run, as the Warriors took an 11-point lead (46-35) into the locker room following a jumper in the paint by sophomore Melissa Jones (Klamath Falls, Ore.) in the final minute.

Corban came onto the floor to start the second half and quickly increased its lead to a game-high 13 points (54-41) after a Miller shot in the paint with just under 17 minutes on the clock. Over the next four-plus minutes, Willam Jessup used a 21-4 run en route to grabbing a four-point advantage (62-58) with 12:27 left. Trailing by three points (69-66) with 5:32 on the clock, Corban used an 8-2 run over a span of three minutes to secure a slim three-point lead (74-71) following a Miller second chance bucket in the paint with 2:32 left. William Jessup would battle back to take a one-point lead (75-74) with just over one minute left, but Corban would jump on the back of Steigleman and ride it for the final 60 seconds. The junior forward would knock down a pair of free throws with 35 seconds left before registering her second steal of the night that resulted in a two-point basket and a three-point Warrior lead (78-75) that resulted in Corban's seventh win of the season.

William Jessup was led offensively by Rachelle Davidson with 19 points, while Rose and Nicole Aboumrad added 18 and 11 points respectively. Vanessa Johnson would pull down a team-high seven rebounds, while Aboumrad handed out a team-high five assists.

As a team, Corban shot 29-for-80 (36.3%) from the field to go along with a combined 5-for-15 (33.3%) from beyond the three-point line and 15-for-18 (83.3%) at the free throw line. On the other hand, William Jessup was a combined 25-for-60 (41.7%) from the field, 10-for-22 (45.5%) from long distance, and 15-for-21 (71.4%) at the charity stripe.

With tonight's result, Corban improves to 7-6 overall and William Jessup falls to 1-12 overall. The Warriors will take a 10-day break from competition before returning to the court on Thursday, December 30th, against fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference member Oregon Tech beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
