Warriors Fall to No. 14-Ranked Raiders in Three

BOX SCORE

ASHLAND, Ore.
– Junior Tiffany Land (Independence, Ore.) registered a team-high 10 kills, but it was not enough as Corban's women's volleyball team fell to the NAIA's No. 14-ranked Raiders of Southern Oregon in three sets Saturday night inside McNeal Pavilion.

After pulling out a marathon five-set victory last night against Oregon Tech, Corban could not overcome the powerful offense of the ranked Raiders in a three set sweep (18-25, 19-25, 20-25).

Offensively, Land was aided by sophomores Chandra Baskoro (Gresham, Ore.) and Jenny Harman (Salem, Ore.) with nine and eight kills respectively. Junior Megan Dees (Tehachapi, Calif.) and sophomore Karisa Calderon (Murrieta, Calif.) combined to hand out 34 assists, while freshman libero Bethany Durre (Bend, Ore.) recorded a match-high 20 digs defensively for the Warriors. At the net, Harman was the only Corban player to record a block as the second-year Warrior scored a pair of points with two solo blocks.

In the opening set, Southern Oregon would jump out to a six-point lead (11-5) before Corban came storming back to within three points (11-8) following a Baskoro kill. The visiting Warriors would watch as Southern Oregon increased its lead to seven points (17-10) before Corban used a 7-3 run to pull within three points (20-17) following a kill by freshman Bailey Wold (Spokane, Wash.). Unfortunately that would be as close as Corban would get, as Southern Oregon used a set-closing 5-1 run en route to securing an early lead (25-18).

Set #2 was controlled by Corban early on, as the Warriors grabbed a five-point lead (9-4) after a Raider attack error. Southern Oregon would not allow the Warriors to increase their lead, as the Raiders used a 16-10 run en route to securing a 20-19 lead and then used a set-closing 5-0 run to secure a two-set lead (25-19).

The third and final set would be a see-saw battle over the opening 28 combined points, as the set was knotted at 14-14 following a combo block by Southern Oregon. The host Raiders would take control from there with a 4-0 run that would extend to a match-closing 11-6 run for the three-set sweep (25-20).

Southern Oregon was led by Sarah Holgen with a match-high 15 kills, while Lindsey Stone handed out a match-high 29 assists for the Raiders. Becky Johnston and Leanne Stennett each recorded double-digit dig totals for SOU, as the duo registered 19 and 13 respectively. Defensively, Lauren Swetland recorded a match-high five blocks at the net for SOU.

With tonight's result, Corban falls to 5-4 overall and 3-4 in Cascade Collegiate Conference matches. Meanwhile, Southern Oregon improves to 11-2 overall and remains unbeaten in league matches at 8-0. The Warriors will return to action on Friday, October 1st, when they host Warner Pacific beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
