James Green led a quartet of Warriors in double figures, as Corban's men's basketball team led wire-to-wire in an 83-61 win over Evergreen Monday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
With the win, Corban extends its winning streak to a season-high four games improving to 9-6 overall and 1-2 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Evergreen falls to 3-9 on the season and remains winless at 0-2 in league games.
Green poured in 15 points off the bench on 7-for-8 shooting from the field, while fellow senior
Erik Cronrath registered a game-high tying 16 points to go along with a 15-point effort by sophomore
Jordan Carter and 11 points from sophomore
Josiah Sebens. On the boards, Cronrath grabbed a team-high six rebounds and Carter dished out a game-high six assists.
A see-saw battle would take place over the opening six minutes, as Corban clung to a slim one-point lead (10-9) following a jumper by Evergreen's Elzie Dickens with 14:29 on the clock. Over the next 69 seconds, Corban used a 5-0 run en route to taking a six-point lead (15-9) thanks to a Green lay-in with 13:20 on the clock. Over the final 13-plus minutes, Corban would continue to apply pressure to the game pedal extending its lead to as much as 19 points (46-27) on a Cronrath free throw that capped the first half scoring. Over the opening twenty minutes, Corban shot a blistering 19-for-27 (70.4%) from the field en route to building the large lead at intermission.
The second half would begin with Corban extending its lead beyond 20 points (51-29) on a jumper by Carter at the 18:09 mark. Evergreen could not get any closer than 17 points (62-45) on a three-pointer by Larry Green, while the host Warriors cruised to a 27-point advantage (77-50) with just under six minutes remaining thanks to a Sebens jumper. Drew Ross connected on a three-pointer that end the game's scoring.
Evergreen was led offensively by Marice Tolliver with a game-high tying 16 points, while Green and Dickens added 13 and 12 points, respectively. ESC's Patrick Lewis led all players on the glass with a game-high seven rebounds, while Marcus Buren dished out a team-best three assists.
As a team, Corban combined to shoot 32-for-62 (51.6%) from the field that included a 10-for-21 (47.6%) showing from beyond the three-point line and a 9-for-17 (52.9%) performance from the free throw line. On the other hand, Evergreen was 23-for-57 (40.4%) from the field, 9-for-27 (33.3%) from long distance, and 6-for-13 (46.2%) at the charity stripe.
Corban will close out play before Christmas tomorrow night – Tuesday, December 20th – against the NAIA's No. 10-ranked Eagles of Northwest beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.
