Carter's Season-High Leads Warriors to Victory

NEWBERG, Ore. – Despite near freezing temperatures outside, Corban's men's basketball team kept itself warm hitting nearly 92% of its free throw shots en route to earning a 67-56 win over NCAA Division III member George Fox Friday inside Miller Gymnasium.

Sophomore Jordan Carter scored a season-high 28 points on 9-for-16 shooting from the field to go along with a perfect 7-for-7 showing at the free throw line, while senior Erik Cronrath added 16 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the field and an 8-for-9 showing at the free throw line. On the boards, junior Dustin Moore grabbed a game-high tying eight rebounds to go along with a team-best three assists by Carter and fellow sophomore Josiah Sebens.

After scoring the game's opening five points, Corban continued to hold the lead throughout despite George Fox fighting back to tie the game at 17-all on a Mike Taylor three-pointer with 8:19 on the clock. Over the next five-plus minutes, the visiting Warriors used a 12-2 run en route to taking a 10-point lead (29-19) on a old-fashion three-point play by Carter with 2:57 left. Corban would settle for a six-point halftime lead (31-25), as Carter scored the Warriors' final five points of the opening half en route to posting a game-high 18 points over the opening 20 minutes of play.

In the opening three-plus minutes of the second half, Corban quickly jumped out to a 13-point lead (38-25) thanks to a 7-0 run that concluded on back-to-back free throws by senior James Green with 16:31 remaining. The visiting Warriors would continue to hold the lead for the remainder of the game, as George Fox could not get any closer than six points (56-50) on an Anthony Sanchez lay-in with 3:33 on the clock. Over the game's final three-plus minutes, Corban used a closing 11-6 run en route to securing an 11-point win (67-56) on a pair of free throws by Sebens in the final minute.

George Fox was led offensively by Taylor with 23 points on 8-for-18 shooting from the field, while Sean Atkins was the only other Bruin in double figures with 10 points. Sanchez would pull down a game-high tying eight rebounds for GFU, while Corey Clark handed out a game-high five assists for George Fox.

As a team, Corban combined to shoot 20-for-50 (40.0%) from the field to go along with a 5-for-20 (25.0%) showing from beyond the three-point line and a 22-for-24 (91.7%) performance at the free throw line. On the other hand, George Fox was 20-for-52 (38.5%) from the field, 3-for-22 (13.6%) from long distance, and 13-for-19 (68.4%) from the charity stripe.

With tonight's win, Corban improves to 7-6 overall and George Fox falls to 2-5 on the season, The Warriors will return to the hardwood tomorrow – Saturday, December 10th – against California Pacific Conference member William Jessup beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.
