EUGENE, Ore. – In its only match this week, Corban's women's volleyball team dropped its first-ever match to Cascade Collegiate Conference rival Northwest Christian in four sets, 3-1 (22-25, 25-13, 16-25, 20-25), Friday inside the Morse Event Center.

Senior Megan Dees (Tehachapi, Calif.) recorded her fourth double-double of the conference season with a team-high 19 assists and 21 digs, while freshmen Claire Bailey (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Courtney Mulford (Upland, Calif.) led Corban's offense with 11 and 9 kills, respectively. Dees was aided running the Warriors' offense by freshman Katherine Salness (Portland, Ore.) with 16 assists, while sophomore libero Bethany Durre (Bend, Ore.) anchored Corban's defense with a team-best 23 digs to go along with a 20-dig performance by junior Chandra Baskoro (Gresham, Ore.).

The opening set was a back-and-forth battle with Northwest Christian earning a four-point lead (12-8) after a Janel Fetters kill before Corban used a 6-2 run to knot things at 14-all. Both teams would trade points until the score was tied once again at 19-19 thanks to a Corban attack error. Northwest Christian would take advantage of the Warriors' hitting miscue using a set-closing 6-3 run that ended on an Emily O'Neal service ace for the three-point win (25-22).

Set #2 was a see-saw battle over the opening six combined points until Corban used a 4-0 run that included a trio of hitting errors by Northwest Christian and a Bailey kill for a 7-3 lead. The visiting Warriors would continue to hold the lead throughout pushing it to as much as 12 points (25-13) thanks to a Bailey set-closing kill that knot things at a set-apiece.

The third set was controlled by the host Beacons, as Northwest Christian quickly grabbed a six-point lead (10-4) on a Cori Wallace kill. Corban would get as close as two points (15-13) thanks to a 9-5 run with Baskoro earning the kill, but Northwest Christian would conclude the set on a 10-3 run for the nine-point win (25-16).

Set #4 would be the final one played, as Northwest Christian grabbed a three-point lead (3-0) before watching Corban secure its own three-point lead (14-11). The host Beacons would come back to take a two-point lead (16-14) following back-to-back combo blocks by Fetters and Danielle Nance. Corban would tie the final set three more time (16-16, 17-17, & 19-19), but could not get over the hump as the host Beacons used a set-closing 6-1 run to capture its first-ever victory over the Warriors.

Northwest Christian was led offensively by Nance with a match-high 12 kills, while Fetters and O'Neal added 11 and six kills respectively. Wallace would hand out a match-high 28 assists, while Dana Clark anchored the Beacons' defense with a match-high 23 digs. At the net, Fetters registered a match-high seven blocks to go along with four each by Nance and Chelsea McGowan.

With tonight's result, Corban falls to 8-7 overall and 2-5 in Cascade Collegiate Conference matches. Meanwhile, Northwest Christian improves to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in league action. The Warriors will return to the court on Friday, September 30th, against the Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.
