Teague's Totals Not Enough Against Rival Concordia

BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore. – Senior Chandra Teague registered team-high totals of 13 kills and 13 digs, but neither were enough as Corban's women's volleyball team fell in four sets to Concordia, 3-1 (13-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-25), Friday inside Cavalier Gymnasium.

With tonight's result, Corban falls to 3-15 overall and 1-11 in Cascade Collegiate Conference matches. Meanwhile, Concordia improves to 11-8 overall and 8-4 in CCC play.

Along with Teague's performances, junior Olivia Shropshire and two other Warriors – sophomore Claire Bailey and freshman Caitlin Marinos – added nine, six, and six kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Katherine Salness guided Corban's offense with a team-high 35 assists and also added 10 digs, while the Warriors' defense was anchored by Teague, Salness, junior Karisa Legg with 13 digs, freshman Hannah Flores with 13 digs, and Marinos with 10 digs. As a team, Corban tallied 65 digs to go along with a four-ace, four-block performance.

The opening set would see Concordia jump out to a nine-point lead (14-5) before Corban pulled to within eight points (21-13). Unfortunately, the host Cavaliers would score the set's final four points thanks to four straight Warrior hitting errors en route to Concordia capturing the first set by the final tally of 25-13.

Set #2 would see Corban jump out to the early lead (11-2) before Concordia used a 15-7 run to pull within a single point (18-17). The visiting Warriors would then use a 4-0 run to pull ahead 22-17 only to see the Cavaliers mount another comeback that pulled them within one point (24-23). Teague would not allow Concordia a chance to finish off the comeback, as she ended the second set with a kill for the 25-23 victory for Corban that knotted the match at a set apiece.

The third set would be identical to the first two, as Concordia cruised to an early seven-point lead (17-10). Corban could not get any closer than seven points (22-15), as the host Cavaliers took advantage of their lead cruising to an eight-point win (25-17).

Set #4, which would be the match's final one, once again belonged to Concordia with the Cavaliers building an insurmountable 12-point advantage (15-3) before coasting to the 10-point victory (25-15) for the four-set win and season sweep over Corban.

Concordia was led by Jackie Stein with a match-high 14 kills, while Mariah Raudsepp and Melanie Miller added 13 kills each. Setter Lindsay Mangan would hand out a match-high 46 assists for the Cavaliers, while Kelsey Kai anchored Concordia's defense with a match-high 24 digs to go along with a match-high nine-block effort by Raudsepp.

Corban will return to action tomorrow – Saturday, October 13th – against the Knights of Warner Pacific inside C.C. Perry Gymnasium in Portland, as the Warriors will be looking to avenge a CCC-opening loss to the Knights and former head coach Nels Norquist. Meanwhile, Concordia will be hosting Northwest Christian tomorrow evening inside Cavalier Gymnasium in the Rose City. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
