SALEM, Ore. – Four Warriors scored in double figures, as Corban's women's basketball team advanced to the championship game of the Capital City Classic with a 67-55 come-from-behind victory over New Hope Christian Friday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
With today's result, Corban improves to 3-4 and New Hope Christian drops to 5-8 overall.

Julia Young led Corban with 15 points, while three other Warriors – senior
Tess Bennett, senior
Emily Tsugawa, and freshman
Jade Lowery – added 14, 13, and 11 points, respectively. Sophomore Tara Vanweerdhuizen grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds to go along with a game-high tying four assists. Tsugawa would also handed out four assists for Corban, while also registering a game-high five steals.
Corban would begin the game scoring seven of the first eight points, as Young tallied all the points for the Warriors en route to jumping out to a 7-1 lead in the opening two-plus minutes. After Corban pushed its lead to eight points (21-13), New Hope Christian used an 11-0 run en route to securing a three-point lead (24-21) following a pair of free throws by Dorian Perkey with exactly two minutes on the clock. The host Warriors would use a 5-1 run to pull ahead by a single point (26-25) before New Hope Christian got a lay-in in the final minute by Salem-native Ellie Gould for the closing points, as the visiting Deacons held a slim one-point lead (27-26) at halftime.
In the beginning of the second half, New Hope Christian would extend its lead to five points (36-31) on a Lei Lolohea lay-in with 15:07 on the clock. Over the next five-plus minutes, Corban would use a 16-3 run to pull ahead by eight points (47-39) on a jumper by freshman
Heidi Eckmann with 9:53 remaining. The host Warriors would push their lead to a game-high 18 points (66-48) on a lay-in by sophomore
Danielle Vanderstoel with just under two minutes left before New Hope Christian closed the game on a 7-1 run for the final margin of 12 points (67-55).
New Hope Christian was led by Lolohea with 16 points and a team-high 17 rebounds, while Deanna Tupai and Chelsea Dyson added eight points each for the Deacons. Dyson would also add six rebounds for NHCC, while also handing out a team-high four assists.
As a team, Corban combined to shoot 25-for-74 (33.8%) from the field that included a 7-for-21 (33.3%) showing from beyond the three-point line and a 10-for-16 (62.5%) performance at the free throw line. On the other hand, New Hope Christian was a combined 18-for-63 (28.6%) from the field, 6-for-21 (28.6%) from long distance, and 13-for-26 (50.0%) at the charity stripe.
Next up for the Warriors will be the Wolves of Western Oregon in the championship game of the Capital City Classic beginning at approximately 5:00 p.m. tomorrow – Saturday, November 24th – inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.
