BOX SCORE

BELMONT, Calif. – Sophomore Tara Vanweerdhuizen registered game-highs with 20 points, 14 rebounds, and six blocked shots, but it was not enough as Corban's women's basketball team fell to NCAA Division II member Notre Dame de Namur, 65-53, Saturday inside Walter Gleason Gymnasium.

With today's loss, Corban falls to 0-2 for the first time since the Warriors began the 2010-11 season with three straight losses. Meanwhile, Notre Dame de Namur's record is not effected by the results since the Argonauts counted the game as an exhibition.

The second-year Warrior also continued her climb up the career blocks list with 131 in her short career, which is a mere 24 blocks away from second all-time in program history.

Along with Vanweerdhuizen, freshman Megan Benedict also scored in double figures with 10 points to go along with an eight-point, six-rebound showing by junior Alison Evans. Senior Emily Tsugawa would handed out a team and game-high seven assists, while also registering a team-high tying two steals along with Benedict and sophomore Haley Holboke.

Notre Dame de Namur would grab a nine-point lead (24-15) at the midway point of the first half before pushing it to double digits (28-17) with 7:56 on the clock. Corban would get within five points (30-25) thanks to a Holboke lay-in before NDNU settled for a 34-25 advantage at halftime.

Over the opening seven-plus minutes of the second half, Corban used a 15-4 run en route to securing a two-point lead (40-38) on a three-pointer by Benedict at the 12:35 mark. Notre Dame de Namur would quickly grab the lead back via an 8-0 run that resulted in a 46-40 lead for the Argonauts with 7:46 remaining in the game. Corban would pull within three points (51-48) on a Vanweerdhuizen lay-in with just over five minutes left before NDNU used a game-ending 14-5 run that resulted in the final margin of 12 points (65-53).

Taylor Dewees would lead Notre Dame de Namur in scoring with 17 points, while Charnisha Bradley and Trisha Malaspina also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. On the boards, Emily Osagiede pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds to go along with a team-best five assists and five steals by Jasmine Waiters.

Offensively, Corban combined to shoot 23-for-78 (29.5%) from the field to go along with a 3-for-24 (12.5%) showing from beyond the three-point line and a 4-for-9 (44.4%) performance at the free throw line. On the other hand, NDNU was 24-for-62 (38.7%) from the field, 3-for-12 (25.0%) from long distance, and 14-for-21 (66.7%) at the charity stripe.
