First Weekly CCC Women’s Basketball Awards Swept by Huerta, Bishop of Warrior Women’s Basketball

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) office has announced the McDonald's CCC Players of the Week, presented by Urban Edge Network, for the competitions held between October 27th to November 2nd, where the Corban University Women's Basketball team swept the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards for the program's first weekly honors since the 2020-21 season of competition. Redshirt sophomore guard Jersey Huerta and graduate student center Emilia Bishop swept the awards from the remainder of the CCC following their 2-0 opening weekend featuring a come-from-behind victory over a nationally ranked opponent.

"When we signed Emi and Jersey over the past offseason, we knew the two of them would be special additions who really bookend our team really well and have just immediately fit right into our team dynamic and culture," Warriors' head coach Kylie Frizell shared earlier this afternoon when she learned of both her first and second student-athletes to earn a weekly honor from the CCC in just her second year as head coach.

The Warrior debut of Huerta was one for the record books, as the Kent, Washington native dropped 16 and 33 points against Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) and No. 18-ranked Arizona Christian, respectively, to average over 24 points per game across the wins over both the Eagles and nationally ranked Firestorm. Additionally, she dished out 12 assists in total as the team's starting point guard, and even clinched a double-double against No. 18-ranked ACU in just her second game wearing the navy and gold threads.

"Jersey's offensive player of the week award is so well-deserved, as she just makes every player on the court around her better," Frizell shared regarding Huerta. "Obviously, she can score at will, but let's not forget about her ability to find the open teammate and dish out assists as well. She plays the game at such a high level and her competitive nature is infectious."

The Warriors' starting center entering the 2025-26 season had quite the weekend on Tim Hills Court, as she hauled in 15 rebounds across their two wins, along with two steals and a pair of blocks. Her field goal percentage settled at 45.5% by the end of Saturday's afternoon contest, which included a 16-point debut against ERAU.

"Having a post player like Emi who can just own the block and control the flow of the game with her defense is irreplaceable," continued Frizell, this time concerning her graduate student post transfer. "I told her entering the season that I wanted her to own that part of the court and command the rebounding situation, and so far, she's done a great job of protecting the rim while making strong contributions offensively as well."

This upcoming Thursday night, Huerta and Bishop will lead the Warriors into battle once again on their home court, as they'll host RV Hope International University (1-0) for a 7:30pm tipoff at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
