BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore. – In a battle for first place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings, Corban's women's basketball team turned the ball over 24 times and was outscored by 13 points at the free throw line in a 63-49 loss to Warner Pacific Saturday inside C.C. Perry Gymnasium.

With tonight's loss, Corban had its season and conference-high nine-game winning streak snapped en route to falling to 19-6 overall and 13-3 in CCC play. Meanwhile, Warner Pacific improves to 19-8 overall and 13-3 in league games.

Junior Emily Tsugawa led the Warriors with a game-high 14 points, a game-high tying six assists, and a game-high tying five steals, while seniors Katie Steigleman and Shayla Fetters added nine points each. Freshman Tara Vanweerdhuizen paced all players with a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with a game-high five blocked shots.

On Senior Night for the host Knights, Corban tried to spoil the festivities early thanks to an early six-point lead (10-4) over the opening five-plus minutes capped by a three-pointer by Steigleman with 14:48 left. Unfortunately, Warner Pacific would use a 15-2 run over a span of seven-plus minutes en route to securing a seven-point lead (19-12). The host Knights would build another seven-point lead (23-16) on a Morgan Wolff fast-break bucket with 5:54 remaining. Corban would use a 5-0 run to pull within two points (23-21) thanks to a free throw by freshman Elizabeth Downs before settling for a four-point deficit (25-21) at halftime.

The second half was not kind to the visiting Warriors, as Warner Pacific slowly began to pull away from the NAIA's No. 10-ranked Corban pushing the lead to as much as 16 points (52-36) following a Katie Smith jumper in the paint at the 5:06 mark.  The visiting Warriors would attempt a comeback over the final five minutes, but only get as close as 11 points (58-47) thanks to a jumper in the paint by junior Tess Bennett with 46 seconds on the clock. Free throw shooting down the stretch by Warner Pacific would seal the deal, as the host Knights settled for the 14-point victory (63-49).

Warner Pacific was led offensively by Chelsey Christensen with 13 points, while Nichole Jackson and Meaghan White added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Christensen would also lead the Knights with 12 rebounds, while Jackson handed out a game-high tying six assists.

As a team, Corban combined to shoot 18-for-52 (34.6%) from the field to go along with a 4-for-17 (23.5%) performance from beyond the three-point line and a 9-for-12 (75.0%) showing at the free throw line. On the other hand, Warner Pacific was 19-for-53 (35.8%) from the field, 3-for-14 (21.4%) from long distance, and 22-for-29 (75.9%) at the charity stripe.

Corban will return to action on Friday, February 17th, against Southern Oregon beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. Friday night's contest between the Warriors and Raiders will be 'Playing 4 Kickz' Night, as Hoop 4 Hoopers will be in attendance collecting slightly used athletic shoes for kids in need. For every pair donated, the donor will be entered into a raffle for prizes throughout the night.
