SALEM, Ore. – Senior
Shayla Fetters scored a game-high 20 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the field that included four three-pointers, as Corban's No. 10-ranked women's basketball team took one step closer to its third Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season title Friday with a 78-64 win over Southern Oregon inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
With tonight's victory and a loss by Warner Pacific, Corban moves one game ahead of the Knights and The College of Idaho for first place in the conference thanks to an overall record of 20-6 and 14-3 in CCC play. Tonight's win also marks the first time since the 2006-07 season that the Warriors have won at least 20 games in a season. Meanwhile, Southern Oregon falls to 14-14 overall and 5-12 in league action.

Katie Steigleman also scored in double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively. The Warriors' other two starters – junior
Emily Tsugawa and freshman Tara Vanweerdhuizen – both added nine points, while Tsugawa dished out a game-high 12 assists and Vanweerhuizen swatted a game-high five shots to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Over the opening five minutes, Corban quickly jumped out to a six-point lead (12-6) on a three-pointer by Fetters with 15:06 on the clock. The host Warriors would extend their lead to double digits (19-9) at the 9:58 mark thanks to another Fetters' trifecta, while settling for a 16-point advantage (38-22) at halftime when Vanweerdhuizen knocked down a free throw with less than three seconds remaining in the first period.
Corban would quickly push its lead to 20-plus points (45-24) thanks to an opening 7-2 run that concluded with a Bennett jumper in the paint at the 17:04 mark. The Warriors would continue to hold a sizeable lead increasing it to a game-high 26 points (71-45) on a three-pointer by Tsugawa with 4:10 left. Southern Oregon would as close as 12 points (76-64) thanks to a 19-5 run over a span of four-plus minutes, but the clock was the enemy of the Raiders as Corban settled for the 14-point win (78-64) following a pair of free throws by freshman
Katherine Salness that capped the night's scoring.
Southern Oregon was led in scoring by Cassandra Tiggett with 13 points off the bench, while RaTanya Newsome added 12 points. Tiggett would also pull down a team-high seven rebounds for the Raiders, while Newsome and Gigi Glogovac handed out a team-best three assists each.
As a team, Corban combined to shoot 29-for-61 (47.5%) from the field to go along with an 8-for-17 (47.1%) showing from beyond the three-point line and a 12-for-17 (70.6%) performance at the free throw line. On the other hand, Southern Oregon was 23-for-78 (29.5%) from the field, 1-for-10 (10.0%) from long distance, and 17-for-23 (73.9%) at the charity stripe.
Corban will return to action tomorrow evening – Saturday, February 18th – in the final home game of the regular season against Oregon Tech beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem. At halftime of the game, the Warriors will honor five seniors that will be making their final appearance during the regular season in front of the home crowd.
