SALEM, Ore. – Freshman
Andrew Evans scored a career and game-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, but it was not enough as Corban's men's basketball team fell to the visiting Coyotes of The College of Idaho, 72-60, Friday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
With tonight's result, Corban falls to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, The College of Idaho improves to 8-9 overall and 4-3 in league games.
Along with Evans, junior
Josiah Sebens was the only other Warrior in double figures with 10 points. Senior
Jacob Kopra and freshman
Kent Foster added eight points each, while senior
Dustin Moore tallied seven points and a team-high six rebounds to go along with a team-high tying three assists.
Following an 8-8 tie with 15:05 on the clock, The College of Idaho used an 11-2 run to earn a nine-point lead (19-9) on a Ben Van Lith lay-in at the 10:56 mark. C of I would push its lead to as much as 17 points (31-14) at the 2:53 mark on a free throw by Sydney Donaldson before Corban scored the final three points of the opening half on a three-pointer by freshman
Taylor Fox for a 31-17 halftime score.
The second half would belong to The College of Idaho, as the visiting Yotes held a double-digit lead throughout most of the final twenty minutes earning a game-high 19-point cushion (38-19) on a three-pointer by Rodney Delgardo with 17:43 left. Corban would pull within seven points on two seperate occasions with the final one coming on a three-pointer by Kopra with 9:37 on the clock making the score 51-44. That would be as close as Corban would get, as C of I hit nine of its final 12 free throws down the stretch en route to earning a 12-point victory (72-60).
Donaldson would lead The College of Idaho in scoring with 14 points, while Delgardo and Antonio Garrett added 12 points each. On the boards, Taylor Pruett grabbed a game-high eight rebounds to go along with a seven-point, six-rebound, six-assist night for Miguel Rodriguez.
As a team, Corban combined to shoot 21-for-61 (34.4%) from the field that included a 14-for-31 (45.2%) showing in the second half. The Warriors were also 7-of-22 (31.8%) from three-point range and 11-for-17 (64.7%) at the free throw line. On the other hand, The College of Idaho was a combined 25-for-55 (45.5%) from the field, 5-of-16 (31.3%) from long distance, and 17-of-25 (68.0%) at the charity stripe.
Corban will return to the hardwood tomorrow – Saturday, January 5th – against the NAIA's No. 2-ranked Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem. Meanwhile, C of I will continue its road trip against Northwest Christian in Eugene. Both games are schedule to start at approximately 7:30 p.m.
