SALEM, Ore. – Corban's women's basketball team overcame an 11-point first half deficit earning its first lead of the game with three minutes left in the second half before falling to the NAIA's No. 22-ranked Coyotes of The College of Idaho, 73-71, Friday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
With tonight's result, Corban falls to 3-13 overall and remains without a win in Cascade Collegiate Conference play this season at 0-6. Meanwhile, The College of Idaho improves to 10-5 overall and 6-1 in league games.

Tess Bennett led the Warriors with 16 points and a game-high tying 12 rebounds, while four other Corban players – sophomore

Emily Tsugawa, and freshman
Jade Lowery – also scored in double figures with 13, 13, 12, and 11 points, respectively. On the boards, Bennett was aided by Tsugawa with six rebounds to go along with her game-high total of seven assists as the fourth-year Warrior also became the 15th player in program history to score 1,000-or-more points in a career thanks to a fast break lay-in at the 13:24 mark of the first half.
C of I would jump out to a quick 7-0 lead in the opening two-plus minutes, as the Coyotes extended their lead to as much as 11 points (17-6) in the first five minutes on a lay-in by Katelin Shannon with 15:04 on the clock. The College of Idaho would continue to hold at least an eight-point lead over the next eight minutes pushing the lead to 10 points (28-18) on back-to-back free throws by Felicity Jones with just over seven minutes left. Corban would then mount a comeback using a 17-7 run over a span of four-in-a-half minutes to tie the score at 35-all on a pair of free throws by freshman
Julia Young with 2:22 on the clock. C of I would score the final four points of the opening half, as the Coyotes secured a four-point advantage (39-35) at halftime.
The second half would begin with C of I scoring seven of the first nine points en route to earning a nine-point lead (46-37) on a three-pointer by Shannon with 17:42 left. Corban would use a 16-6 run over the next five-plus minutes to pull within a single point (53-52) thanks to a fast break lay-in by Lowery with 12:15 on the clock. The College of Idaho would use a 9-1 run over a span of seven minutes to earn a 61-54 lead on a Laura Geis jumper with 5:20 remaining. Over the next two minutes, Corban would score nine unanswered points en route to grabbing its lone lead of the game (63-61) on a lay-in by Bennett with 3:04 left. Another lay-in by Bennett one minute later would give Corban its second lead of the night (65-63) before C of I scored the final two points of regulation on back-to-back free throws by Dayna Drager with 1:20 left. Following a pair of missed free throws by Bennett, C of I's Drager attempted to end the game in regulation, as he last-second three-pointer from the corner hit the front iron as the buzzer sounded forcing overtime.
In the extra period, The College of Idaho struck first scoring four straight points en route to earning a 69-65 lead with 3:53 left. Corban could not get any closer than two points, as C of I secured three four-point leads with the final one coming at 73-69 on a jumper in the paint by Geis with 1:26 left. Tsugawa would hit a pair of free throws for Corban pulling the Warriors within two points (73-71), but neither team would score again as C of I's Chakala Carthen grabbed an offensive rebound on a missed Yote free throw to secure the victory.
The College of Idaho was led in scoring by Geis with a game-high 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Jones, Shannon, and Drager added 17, 13, and 11 points, respectively. Geis was aided on the boards by Shannon with six rebounds, while Jones dished out a game-high six assists for the Yotes.
As a team, Corban combined to shoot 28-for-55 (50.9%) from the field that included a 3-for-11 (27.3%) clip from beyond the three-point line and a 12-for-23 (52.2%) showing at the free throw line. On the other hand, The College of Idaho combined to shoot 26-for-74 (35.1%) from the field, 2-of-12 (16.7%) from long distance, and 19-of-26 (73.1%) at the charity stripe.
Corban will return to action tomorrow – Saturday, January 5th – against the NAIA's No. 9-ranked Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem, while The College of Idaho will travel to Eugene to take on Northwest Christian. Both games are scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
