Dozier Leads Warriors in Loss to Host Saints of Carroll

HELENA, Mont. – Freshman Caleb Dozier scored a career-high 20 points off the bench, as Corban's men's basketball team fell to tournament-host Carroll, 81-74, Saturday to close out the Carroll Classic inside the Carroll PE Center.

Corban (3-2) would get a 7-for-8 performance from Dozier en route to his team-high scoring output, while three other Warriors – senior Jordan Carter, senior Josiah Sebens, and freshman Toby Roth – also scored in double figures with 16, 14, and 10 points, respectively. Carter also led Corban with four rebounds, while also tying with Roth for the team lead in assists with three each.

Carroll (3-3) was led offensively by Zach Taylor with a game-high 26 points, while Dennis Mikelonis, Jake Hollifield, and Chris McGrath also scored in double figures with 20, 15, and 12 points, respectively. Hollifield led the Saints with a game-high five rebounds, while Taylor handed out a game-high five assists for Carroll.

In the opening three minutes, Carroll would build an early eight-point lead (9-1) before the Saints extended their lead to 12 points (15-3) on back-to-back free throws by Taylor with 15 minutes on the clock. Over the next five-plus minutes, Corban used an 18-8 run to pull within two points (23-21) on a three-pointer by freshman Caleb Herzberg with 9:45 left. Carroll would never relinquish its lead in the opening half pushing to as much as seven points (37-30) with 2:02 left before Corban closed the first half on a 5-0 run resulting in a two-point deficit (37-35) at halftime.

The second half would begin with Carroll scoring the first five points, as the host Saints continued to hold the lead pushing to as much as 13 points (70-57) on a pair of free throws by Mikelonis with 4:17 left in the game. Corban would pull within five points (70-65) with an 8-0 run that concluded on a jumper by Carter in the paint with 1:49 left. Unfortunately, Carroll's free throw shooting down the stretch would seal with win for the Saints after the home team went 11-for-14 in the final two minutes to earn the 81-74 victory.

Overall, Corban combined to shoot 27-for-47 (57.4%) from the field that included a 9-for-24 (37.5%) showing from beyond the three-point line and an 11-for-14 (78.6%) performance at the free throw line. On the other hand, Carroll was a combined 25-for-41 (61.0%) from the field, 4-for-14 (28.6%) from long distance, and 27-for-32 (84.4%) at the charity stripe.

Corban will not return to action until Tuesday, November 26th, when the Warriors take on NCAA Division III member George Fox beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Newberg.

NOTE: The back-to-back games between Corban and Northwest Indian College that were scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, November 19th & 20th, have been cancelled due to transportation issues by NWIC from Bellingham, Washington.
