SALEM, Ore. – Senior
Olivia Shropshire tallied a match-high tying 13 kills, as Corban's women's volleyball team opened Cascade Collegiate Conference play with a straight set loss, 3-0 (15-25, 18-25, 20-25), Friday against nationally-ranked Southern Oregon inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
With tonight's loss, Corban falls to 2-8 overall and 0-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Southern Oregon improves to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in league matches.
Along with Shropshire, who also registered seven digs defensively, the trio of junior

Payton Wilcox tallied five kills each. The freshman setting duo of
Haley Meili and Wilcox combined to hand out 27 assists, as Meili registered 16 assists to go with Wilcox's 11. Defensively, junior libero

The opening set would see Southern Oregon jump out to a 10-point lead (20-10) before Corban used a 5-3 run to pull within eight points (23-15) on a service ace by Salness. Unfortunately that would be as close as the Warriors would get in Set #1, as Southern Oregon scored the final two points en route to winning the first set by the final score of 25-15.
Set #2 would begin with Corban earning a two-point lead (11-9) on a kill by freshman
Mikenzee Frazier before Southern Oregon used an 11-3 run to pull ahead by six points (20-14) on a kill by Paulia Pinheiro. Despite Corban getting within five points (21-16) on a kill by Smith, the visiting Raiders' lead with too much to overcome as Southern Oregon cruised to a 25-18 victory.
The third and final set would see Southern Oregon jump out to a quick 6-0 lead before Corban used an 11-4 run to take a one-point lead (11-10) on a combo block by Harman and Wilcox. A back-and-forth battle would happen over the next several points, as Southern Oregon clung to a slim lead (22-19) forcing a timeout by Corban. The host Warriors would get within two points (22-20) on a kill by Shropshire before Southern Oregon scored the final three points to take the match in three straight sets (25-20).
Southern Oregon was led offensively by Pinheiro with a match-high tying 13 kills, while Madden and Tyana Andrews added nine and seven kills, respectively. Lindsay Verboort and Lauren McGowne combined to hand out 41 assists for the Raiders, as Verboort registered a match-high 22 for SOU. In the back row, Renee Yomtob registered a match-high 15 digs for Southern Oregon to go along with a match-high four blocks by Madden.
Corban will return to action tomorrow – Saturday, September 7th – against the Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
