Pilgeram Leads Warriors to Win Over Warner Pacific

BOX SCORE

SALEM, Ore. – Freshman Sadie Pilgeram scored a career-high of 19 points that included a 4-of-8 performance from three-point range, as Corban's women's basketball team extended its home winning streak to three games with a 78-58 victory over Warner Pacific Friday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

"It was a great team effort tonight starting with the backup minutes Danielle gave when Tara had to sit with two early fouls in the first half," said head coach Dave Bale. "Our shooting in the second half broke it open being led by Sadie's 7-of-11 which included four three's. The defense from all of our wings helped slow down the Knights in the second half. I was really pleased with the backup players and their contribution. They gave the starters time to rest and allowed the pressure in the second half to make a difference."

Corban (10-8, 5-1 CCC) was aided offensively by junior Tara Vanweerdhuizen with 13 points, while the sophomore duo of Jade Lowery and Julia Young chipped in with eight points each. Young also had game-high eight rebounds to go along with a team-best four assists by sophomore Megan Benedict. Vanweerdhuizen provided a game-high six blocked shots, as junior Danielle Vanderstoel provided a season-high five blocks as well for the Warriors.

Warner Pacific (5-12, 1-5 CCC) was led offensively by Salem-native Janelle Weiss with 11 points, as Jessica Thoens chipped in with nine points and a team-high five assists.

The game started out neck-and-neck, as the Warriors and Knights kept the score fairly even throughout resulting in a 36-32 lead for the home team at halftime.

Within minutes of the second half beginning, the Warriors extended their lead at intermission keeping the Knights at least 10 points at bay for the rest of the night.

As a team, Corban combined to hit 26-of-52 (50.0%) shots from the field that included a 15-fo-25 (60.0%) performance in the second half. The Warriors were also 8-of-20 (40.0%) from the three-point line and 18-for-30 (60.0%) from the free throw line. On the other hand, Warner Pacific made 19-of-57 (33.3%) shots from the field, including 6-for-17 (35.3%) from long distance, and 14-for-19 (73.7%) at the free throw line.
