KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Almost 93% of the Warriors scored in their opening Cascade Collegiate Conference game of the New Year, but Corban's women's basketball team dropped its first CCC game of the season to the NAIA's No. 14-ranked Oregon Tech, 80-57, Friday at Danny Miles Court.
Corban (8-8, 3-1 CCC) was led offensively by junior
Katherine Salness with nine points off the Warriors' bench, while freshman
Sadie Pilgeram added eight points to go along with a pair of seven-point performances by junior Tara Vanweerdhuizen and sophomore
Julia Young. Vanweerdhuizen also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, as she also added a team-high tying three assists and two blocked shots.
Oregon Tech (15-2, 3-2 CCC) had three players – Carrie Thibault, Kassi Conditt, and McKensey Peters – score in double figures with a game-high 18, 11, and 11 points, respectively. Conditt also led the Hustlin' Owls with seven rebounds, five assists, and a game-high three blocked shots.
In the opening four minutes, Corban would grab its largest lead of the game (7-4) on a three-pointer by Pilgeram before Oregon Tech used a 21-8 run over a span of eight minutes to grab a 25-15 lead on a jumper in the paint by Conditt with 8:14 on the clock. The host Owls would slowly build its lead to 19 points (43-24) over the final eight-plus minutes, as Oregon Tech would get a pair of free throws by Karly Leveque to close out the first half.
The second half would begin with Corban getting within 13 points (43-30) on a three-pointer by sophomore
Jade Lowery at the 16:25 mark. That would be as close as the Warriors would get, as Oregon Tech built its lead to a game-high 27 points (77-50) on a jumper by Megan Whetstone with 4:24 remaining. Over the game's final four-plus minutes, Corban outscored the host Owls by four points for the final difference of 23 points (80-57) with junior

As a team, Corban combined to shoot 19-for-54 (35.2%) from the field that included a 4-for-11 (36.4%) performance from beyond the three-point line and a 15-of-21 (71.4%) showing at the free throw line. On the other hand, Oregon Tech was a combined 27-of-56 (48.2%) from the field, 9-of-20 (45.0%) from long distance, and 17-of-23 (73.9%) at the charity stripe.
Corban will return to action tomorrow – Saturday, January 4th – against the NAIA's No. 17-ranked Raiders of Southern Oregon beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside Bob Riehm Arena in Ashland.
