CCC Tournament Semifinal Preview: Slate Wiped Clean for Corban Men’s Soccer

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University men's soccer team embarks on a brand new season on Tuesday, with this new campaign having the stakes raised tremendously.  The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament begins with a matchup between the fourth-seeded Warriors taking on regular-season conference champions and the top-seeded Concordia University Cavaliers.

Tuesday's matchup, set for a 4 p.m. kickoff at Tuominen Yard at Concordia, features the 2013 CCC Champion, Corban, and the current title-holder, Concordia.  It is also a rematch of last year's CCC Tournament Championship match.  For those attending the contest, be sure to note the following ticket prices:

Adults:  $7

Students:  $4

Seniors:  $4

Kids 10 and under:  Free

$20 Youth Team Pass (12 team members and two coaches)

(To arrange for a Youth Team Pass, email:  psweeney@cu-portland.edu)

All tickets purchased to Tuesday's contest are for general admission seats, and tickets can only be purchased at the front gate.  Doors will open one hour prior the start of the match.

Corban enters Tuesday's contest (10-7-1, 8-5-1 CCC) as the No. 4 seed in the CCC Tournament, looking to defend its tournament title that it won in 2013.  Concordia (13-4-0, 12-2-0 CCC) comes into Tuesday's match as the regular-season champs and the No. 1 seed, having won seven-consecutive games to close out the 2014 regular season.

During the 2014 campaign, the teams met twice, with both games going in favor of the visiting squad.  In the first CCC match of the season, Concordia won at Corban, 2-1, while just a couple of weeks later in early October, the Warriors returned the favor with a 1-0 triumph at Concordia.

Corban's attack is led by senior forward Arsinio Walker (Kingston, Jamaica) with 13 goals and five assists for 31 points, while sophomore midfielder Quamie Dinnall (May Pen, Jamaica) ranks second on the squad with four goals and six assists for 14 points.  His six assists are a team-best mark.

For Concordia, Timur Zhividze leads the way with 13 goals and six assists for 32 points on the campaign, while Zak Naylor currently sits second on the squad with five goals and four assists for 14 points.  Other top scorers for the Cavaliers are Ben Culpan with four goals, while Kevin Fischer and B.J. Romac have tallied four each as well.

For the season, Corban is 10-1 when scoring the game's first goal.  Concordia currently averages 2.76 goals scored per game, while Corban scores 2.22 goals per game.  Defensively, the Warriors have allowed 1.39 goals per contest, while Concordia surrenders an average of 1.12 goals per game.  Concordia's seven-game unbeaten streak heading into the CCC Tournament is the longest of any CCC team.
