Warrior Basketball Gears up for Cross-Town Rivalry Doubleheader on CCTV

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University department of athletics announced on Monday afternoon that Capital Community Television (CCTV), Salem's public TV channel, would be broadcasting Tuesday's Warrior basketball doubleheader in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.  The Warrior women's basketball team hosts NCAA Division II opponent, Western Oregon University, at 5 p.m., and then the Corban men's basketball team welcomes cross-town NCAA Division III foe, Willamette University, at 7:30 p.m.

CCTV will broadcast the games on CCTV2, which is channel 22 on Comcast Cable on a tape delay following the games.  In the past, CCTV has broadcasted local high school and college sporting events and has done a number of Corban basketball games during that time.  In addition to Tuesday's doubleheader being broadcasted on CCTV, the Warrior basketball doubleheader on January 17 will vs. Eastern Oregon University will be broadcasted as well.

The Corban women (3-4) enter Tuesday's contest coming off of a monumental upset victory over NCAA Division I opponent, Portland State University.  The Warriors ran past the Vikings on Saturday in the exhibition contest, 74-64, via a big performance from junior guard Jade Lowery (Oregon City, Ore.), as she scored a game-high 21 points, while senior center Tara Van Weerdhuizen (Spokane, Wash.) finished the contest with 10 points, 15 boards, and four blocks.  For the season, Lowery and Van Weerdhuizen lead the way offensively with an average of 15.7 and 11.0 points per game, respectively.  Junior guard Julia Young (Snohomish, Wash.) is also coming off of a big week, as in the midweek contest, she scored 24 points to lead the Navy and Gold to 69-52 triumph over Lewis & Clark College.

Corban's opponent in that 5 p.m. women's game, Western Oregon, enters Tuesday with a 0-4 overall record, and a 0-1 mark on the road.  Last Tuesday, the Wolves lost in their only road game of the season thus far at Concordia University in Portland, 72-69.  For the season, Dana Goularte leads the Western Oregon offense with 16.5 points per game, while Jordan Mottershaw averages 12.0 points-per-game.

The Warrior men enter Tuesday's non-conference contest with a 4-2 record and are coming off of a dominating performance against New Hope Christian College on Saturday evening, winning 99-68.  On the season, junior forward Cyrus Ward (Gig Harbor, Wash.) leads Corban on the offensive end, averaging a double-double with 18.5 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game.  Senior guard Jordan Carter (Salem, Ore.) also provides a dynamic offensive threat for the Warriors, scoring 16.2 points per game while tallying 7.2 rebounds per night.  Freshman guard AJ Monterossi (Beaverton, Ore.) has acted the team's distributor, dishing out a team-best 6.0 assists per game while also registering 11.3 points per game in just four contests. 

Willamette comes into Tuesday's contest with a 1-2 record on the season, having most recently defeated Caltech in Salem, 79-73.  The Bearcats trailed by 14 with 14:05 remaining in the second half against the Beavers, but they rallied to take the lead with 2:32 left and held on for the six-point victory.  Brandon Luedtke averages a team-best 17.7 points per game for the Bearcats, while Brendon McCullough scores 11.3 points per game for Willamette.

While the game on CCTV will be broadcasted on a tape delay, fans can watch the game via the live video broadcast on Warrior TV online and can also follow the contest via live stats.
