SALEM, Ore. – Junior
Jordan Carter tallied double-digit points for the 14th straight game with a game-high 16 points against Oregon Tech, as Corban's men's basketball team fell to the Hustlin' Owls, 71-51, Saturday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
Corban (6-16, 2-11 CCC) also had sophomore
Cyrus Ward scoring in the double-digits with 14 points, while senior
Josiah Sebens pulled down a game-high tying eight rebounds and had a team-leading two blocks.
Oregon Tech (13-12, 6-7 CCC) helped head coach Danny Miles earn career win No. 1,000, as the leader of the Hustlin' Owls became only the second collegiate coach in men's basketball history to accomplish the milestone joining former McKendree head coach Harry Statham. The Owls had three players in the double-digits with Kyle Waits leading the way with a team-high 15 points. Austen Flint added 10 points and handed out a team-high four assists, while Tanner Manselle led OIT with a game-high tying eight rebounds.
After a three-point shot by freshman
Caleb Herzberg at 18:48, the Warriors were able to get within two points of the Owls three times during the first half with the final time coming on a layup by Herzberg at 8:38 that brought the Warriors within 24-22. The Owls would go 15-for-34 in the first half from the field, including 9-of-22 (40.9%) from beyond the arc, en route to earning a 14-point lead (48-34) after halftime.
Oregon Tech continued their lead throughout the rest of the second half, as the Warriors were able to get within 10 points (56-46) after eight straight points by Ward with the final ones coming at the 14:09 mark. Unfortunately, the Warriors would not get any closer thanks to a game-ending 15-6 run by the Owls for the final difference of 20 points (71-51).
As a team, Corban combined to shoot 18-for-46 (39.1%) from the field that included 1-for-6 (6.3%) from beyond the three-point line and 14-for-25 (56%) from the free-throw line. Oregon Tech was a combined 22-for-57 (38.6%) from the field, including 11-for-30 (36.7%) from beyond the three-point line and 16-for-18 (88.9%) at the free-throw line.
Corban returns to the hardwood on Friday, February 7th, against rival Concordia beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m. inside Cavalier Gymnasium in the Rose City.
