Eastern Oregon Holds on for 68-65 Triumph Over Corban

BOX SCORE SALEM, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University secured a spot in the men's Cascade Collegiate Conference postseason tourney with a 68-65 victory over Corban University.
 
The Mountaineers (15-10, 6-9 CCC) held off the Warriors (6-18, 2-13 CCC) down the stretch led by 17 points from Kyllian Wood.  Jordan Carter led all scorers with 20 points for Corban.
 
Eastern Oregon shot 42 percent (24-57) from the field and used 13 offensive rebounds to offset Corban's 49 percent (21-43) shooting.  Tony Eackles had 14 points and Kalvin Johanson added eight rebounds for the victors.  Trever Phillips and Deonta Edwards also scored in double figures for the Mountaineers and Kevin Attila had six assists.
 
Toby Roth tallied 18 points, hitting 11-for-12 from the line, and Josiah Sebens had 15 points for Corban.  Cyrus Ward claimed a game-high 10 rebounds as the Warriors now look to snap a 12-game drought.
 
"The effort of the guys was incredible but we just made too many mistake," stated head coach Steve Masten.
 
Corban built an early six-point advantage in the first half, but Eastern scored the final seven points of the period to lead, 36-29, at halftime.  The Mountaineers extended their lead to 12 points early in the second frame.  The Warriors chipped away but a tying half-court shot by Roth was off the mark at the buzzer.
 
On Saturday, Corban entertains conference frontrunner and No. 6-ranked The College of Idaho at 7:30 pm.
