BOX SCORE SALEM, Ore. – Sophomore
Jade Lowery scored 26 points as Corban University defeated No. 20-ranked Eastern Oregon University, 73-65, in women's Cascade Collegiate Conference action at C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
The Warriors (12-15, 7-8 CCC) built a 13-point second half lead and snapped a seven-game losing streak in topping the conference leading Mountaineers (19-8, 11-4 CCC), losers of three straight.
"We had good contribution from a number of people off the bench," said head coach
Dave Bale. "We played really hard the whole game. The ladies were determined not to let this streak continue."
League scoring leader Brittney Newcomb led all players with 29 points for Eastern Oregon, but a swarming Warriors defense limited her to 8-of-33 shooting, including 2-of-16 from three-point range.
Lowery was 9-for-17 from the field making 3-of-7 from long range and 5-of-6 from the line. Tara Vanweerdhuizen dominated the boards grabbing a game-high 21 rebounds for the Warriors.
Julia Young added 16 points, while
Sadie Pilgeram and Vanweerdhuizen scored 10 points apiece.
Nicole Redd also scored in double-digits for the Mountaineers with 12 points. Newcomb and Payton Parrish each had seven rebounds for the visitors.
Corban shot 40 percent (25-62) as a team while Eastern Oregon struggled from the floor at 29 percent (21-73).
Eastern Oregon raced to an early eight-point lead in the opening half. Corban used a 13-3 run to take its first advantage of the contest, 19-17, before going to the break on top, 33-28. A Lowery triple gave the Warriors a 51-38 cushion with just over 13 minutes to play. The Mountaineers used a 17-6 surge over the next four minutes to cut the deficit to two, 57-55, but would get no closer.
Corban continues its conference slate on Saturday hosting The College of Idaho at 5:30 pm.
