KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Corban University women's soccer team won on the road vs. Northwest University for the first time since 2010 on Friday afternoon, clinching a spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament via a 1-0 triumph over the Eagles. Not only was the win monumental for both of those reasons, but it is clear that the Warriors are beginning to fire on all cylinders at just the right time heading into the home stretch of the 2015 campaign.

"It was great to get a win on the road in a tough place to play," said Corban head coach Marty Ziesemer. "The team had to battle this one out from the first minute on and they stepped up to the challenge."
On a wet and windy day on the campus of Northwest, the Warriors and Eagles battled through a tense first 40 minutes, but then it was freshman Emma Kosmala (Lebanon, Ore.) who broke the deadlock and scored her first-career goal in the 42nd minute of play, putting Corban in front. After a nicely lofted ball was sent into the near post by sophomore midfielder Dani Morseman (Cashmere, Wash.) on a corner kick, junior midfielder Emily Larick (Redlands, Calif.) flicked the ball on and found Kosmala in the six yard box. Kosmala made no mistake, putting Corban in front with the goal that would ultimately be the difference.
The second half would test the Warrior defense on a number of occasions, but Corban stood tall defensively, making a number of key tackles in the back while blocking a few Eagle shots as well. The goalkeeping from Corban on the day was outstanding, as sophomore Sheyenne Brusven (Silverton, Ore.) made four saves, while freshman Delia Rodriguez (Salem, Ore.) made two key stops after coming into the match late to secure the triumph.
"Our defense played well to keep them from getting good looks," said Ziesemer. "Once again we were successful on putting away a corner kick to win the game and to get a shutout is always a nice way to end the match. Clinching a playoff spot in a tough environment is a testament to the players' desire."
Corban and Northwest tied in shots on the day, 13-13, while Corban held a significant advantage in corner kicks, 11-5.
The win secured Corban (6-10-1, 3-6-1 CCC) as at least the No. 8 seed in the CCC Tournament, but if the Warriors win or tie tomorrow at Evergreen, then Corban will be the No. 7 seed. Kickoff tomorrow in Olympia, Wash. is set for a 2 p.m. start.
